Which cruiser motorcycle should I buy?
I need help deciding which motorcycle is best for me I'm 6'1 and 210lbs
These 2 cruisers fit my budget 2007 Suzuki s40 boulevard or 2008 honda shadow vlx600
Which OnE is best can some one give a honest opinion or if they know any other cruiser motorcycle they can recommend me?
Horsepower is meaningful only for top speed. Off the line what matters is torque, and the big single rules. The S40 is *far* quicker on the streets. The Air-cooled single belt is far easier to maintain than a liquid-cooled twin chain. IF you ever need help with the Suzuki we have an excellent forum at suzukisavage.com. IMHO the Suzuki is far better of a bike than the Honda… BUT…
You are 6'1", the Honda twin is stretched out nearly 5" more than the Suzy. Check the ergos -- http://cycle-ergo.com/ You can go and sit on both bikes, you will probably cramped on the S40, comfortable on the twin. Both are good motorcycles but what *really* matters is which bike fits your but. The VLX has a touch more power, which would be useful since you are a bigger guy. What is the dollar amount of your budget? There are tons of motorcycles in the ~$2000-3000 range. Both are nice motorcycles so it depends on your budget and your maintenance schedule.
The S 40 will require a little bit more maintenance than than the Shadow so that is a toss of your coin.
Honda makes nice bikes, usually quite reliable but Suzuki isn't too far behind.
Go test ride both bikes. Whitch ever feels more comfortable is probably a good buy for you. As everyone else says, you'd probably be happy with either. The S40 is a single, the VLX is a twin. That and the difference in manufacturers is about the only real difference. It might come down to a matter of ergos. Another answerer said to ride both and decide, but I think just sitting on both would tell you a lot.
And if it was me I'd also consider a Shadow 750. There are millions of them around, your local Craigslist is probably crawling with them, and I'd bet yo could find one in your price range. My first bike was a 07 VLX600 shadow. At 6'1" 250, I outgrew it in 2 months and immediately started riding harleys and victorys. Had i bought the 750, I probably would have stayed riding it much longer given the dramatic size difference between the two bikes. For someone your size, I think you would be better served on a 750 shadow instead of the 600. Ironically you can find shadow 750s in good condition much cheaper than comparable VLX600's.
If i were doing it all over again, I would find the cheapest Victory Vegas I could find and ride it til the wheels fell off. I put 50k miles on my 06 Kingpin and would recommend Victory's to anyone, even beginners.

- Which motorcycle should I get for a beginner? I'm planning on buying a motorcycle because I'm turning 16 soon and I need a vehicle to commute to and from school. Which bike is reliable for a starter? Honda CBR 125CC, Yamaha R125, Ninja Kawasaki 250R or other bikes? I'm also in a budget and looking for a bike around $2,000 and will not go over $2500. I'm also 5'11 and 155 LBS.
- What happened to Japanese cruiser motorcycles? Why were they all discontinued? Gone since 2009? Seems like V start, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki all dropped all their bikes of 1400cc-1600cc since 2009. Harley Davidson Dyna and Softail are 1600cc so there only comp is?
- What are good and cheap cruiser bikes? Under 4-5k? I'm looking for something similar to the honda rebel. I need it to hit 55- 60 miles per hours since the roads are spaced out where i'm from. And if i buy used should I trust a used motorcycle what should I look for? Detailed answers are much appreciated!
- Want to upgrade to a bigger cruiser? This is the second season I haven't had a motorcycle and I can't take it anymore! I previously had two honda shadow 750's and they were great bikes, but I want something with more oomph. I'm pretty open to any manufacturer. There are a few things that I'm looking for in a bike. Low seat height. I'm right under 5 7". Somewhat light bike. 550-650 ish pounds Less than $5000.
