Will this engine oil work for my car?

I have a 2012 Honda odyssey 3.5L and I usually use 0W-20 oil for it. My friend had some full synthetic 10W-30 that he gave me. Will that work just fine or should I just use the 0W-20?

Read your owners manual and use what it suggests - I don't have one for your car but you should. Don't deviate from factor recommendations on oil viscosity.

It won't damage the engine at all, but will result in a tiny bit less gas mileage and could effect the variable valve timing of the engine due to the higher viscosity causing less than optimal performance.

Your engine has variable valve timing. VVT relies on oil pressure to operate. Switching to a different viscosity can seriously affect how the VVT works and result in a check engine light. Anybody who says it's ok to change oil viscosity is someone who is completely out of date on current engine design and the latest oil technologies.

Don't do it! Use what the mfgr recommends.

You should ALWAYS use full synth over standard oil if you can (its better for the engine)

but you are wanting to use a thicker oil, it will pull performance and not properly lube the engine…

you can go thinner but not thicker

Use the suggested oil, especially in modern engines with variable valve timing and very close tolerances. You can use a synthetic 0w-20 if you want.
