When I mow on mulch, I get tons of grass clippings trailing behind. Why? - 1

Added (1). I have a good Honda, self propelled mower, set to mulch. When I'm cutting I always end up with a think line of grass clippings in the lines of my tires. I then have to rake, which I shouldn't have to do.

Is there something wrong with my mower, or my technique? I've tried going slower, raising the height and nothing seems to work.

You are cutting too much off the grass.

If you set your lawnmower to 2 inches high, you should be cutting the lawn when the grass is no more than 3 inches high.

Cut more often and do not cut when the grass is wet.

Cutting the lawn when the grass is wet will cause the grass to clump and drop to the ground in unsightly heaps.

I also have a Honda self-propelled, so does a good friend of mine. Both of our mowers are set to mulch, and both do that. I haven't found a way to avoid that either. I read in Consumer Reports that overall Honda is one of the best (that's why I bought one), but they do have that one little fault of not dispersing the clippings as well as some other mowers. I'm into my 3rd year with mine, and for it's overall performance I will tolerate that line of clippings.

I got a Honda too. Doesn't matter how little grass I take off, it still leaves a small trail by the wheels. As long as the grass is dry you will barely see it the next day. I don't like raking so I learned to live with it.

  • Will buying a newer mower solve my issue with dying while cutting thicker grass? I have an older 6.5 hp Toro and it dies frequently going through tall or thick grass. I bought a brand new Toro with a 190cc 7.25 ft/lb. Torque engine and it had the same problem, perhaps more so. If I spend a little more money (about $400 more than the new Toro) and get the Honda HRX217VKA will it make a difference? It also has a 190cc engine but I've read that the Honda engines are much better.
  • Why is Toyota so technologically behind? Toyota Corolla in the States still use rear drum brakes and an archaic 4 speed auto. Compare them to Honda, Hyundai, etc. When people complained about the lousy braking of the Toyota Fortuner, we all expected them to change to 4 wheel disc brakes. But they only changed the mere front discs. Toyota Innova has smaller front disc brakes than the Smart car.
  • Honda lawn mower starting, blade turning but not cutting grass? It's a Honda harmony 215 (hrb215) it starts on first pull, runs great, when you engage the blade it spins at full power, but when trying to cut grass it doesn't do anything. Doesn't even try to cut it. Have had it in knee high grass even and it doesn't do anything… Any ideas?
  • What should I do about a garage that refuses to stand behind a parts warranty? Five months ago I had new front brake pads and rotors installed (Honda Civic) at a local non-dealer garage. Now they are making grinding noise when the brake pedal is applied. A trip back to the garage revealed the rotors were warped. The invoice said they were warrantied for two years, but the garage said the warranty is with the manufacturer and for parts only. I would have to take it up with them to recoup money it will take to replace these parts and I'd still have to pay for labor.
