Why is car insurance so expensive for me?

I'm eighteen, i drive very well, never been in a wreck. No tickets. I've been driving since i was fifteen. I want to finance a 2015 mustang from the dealership and got a auto insurance quote from geico. They gave me a quote for 600$ a month. 600$ a month. SIX, Hundred. I find that outrageously ridiculous and am wondering how to get around this money pit. Even when i drove a old honda my insurance was 180 a month. That is such a waste! And so unreasonable! Any way around it? Any logical explanation?

You're in the 18-22 age group that have THE most accidents, so there's not much you can do.

Young driver. Fast car. NEW Fast car.

Because it is a Mustang?

That's just the way it is kid. No use whining about it. What are you doing that you can afford a new Mustang at your age?

Because you are young and want a car that has a track record for being destroyed in the hands of a teen, as well as causing damages to the property of others.

If you think that car is bad, get a quote on a liter sport bike.

Your only 18 and I'm guessing a male. Your insurance goes up exponentially when you buy a sports car. Particularly the car with the second highest death rate per capita. Buy a sedan. Even a sporty sedan is cheaper than a coupe

A ridiculous number of accidents are caused by drivers between 18-22 so you're in the red flag age range. Even if you're the safest driver on Earth, the insurance company only sees on paper that you're an 18-year-old male driving a 2015 Mustang.

You fall under the four worst categories for car insurance: (1) age, being between 18-22… (2) sex, being a male. (3) age and cost of car, yours being brand new. (4) fast sports car.

Insurance companies price their policies on risk. So to them you fall under the four riskiest categories for them having to pay out a lot of money in a claim.

Insurance works on averages.

The average 18 year old driver IS likely to have an accident. YOU may be much more careful than most, but think about some you your dumber mates for a minute. They would crash a car like for sure. And you get lumped into the same risk group as them.

Then it's a powerful sports car. That also high risk (for ANY group)

Male? Also higher risk

New car? Expensive to replace when you do write it off.

So All the factors are stacked against you, and in reality, they don't really WANT your business.

BTW, where I live, most companies would simply refuse to cover you, and in Australia, at 18 you wouldn't legally be able to drive that car due to it's power / weight ratio.

Just keep looking you can custom your own insurance eg take of curtsey car an legal protection ect. Try moneysupermarket or comparison site. Or get a cheaper to insure car.

It sucks I know but I'm 21 we both fall into a sucky age group 16-25 and pay more period. I drive a '14 Focus and mine is 118 per month with geico. I suggest you not get a mustang or new sports car until your insurance rates go down

  • Why does it appear used cars are more expensive than new? For example. I'm looking at a 2019 Honda City, new it's $17,990 drive away if I look on car sales the 2017 model is even $19,000. Ok the 2019 is a manual price but that's a huge difference and 2 years on. Please tell me what I'm missing?
  • Why does insurance price matter if the car isn't full coverage? I don't understand why my insurance on my 2016 Honda hire than my 2002 Honda. Both cars or only liability coverage. I own both. I don't understand.
  • Why are Volkswagen Jettas so expensive? The base 2016 jetta comes with almost no features that other cars such as honda, corolla, mazda3, and nissan sentra have Its just a barebones car, what makes it so special that its justifies the same price?
  • Why are electricity generators so expensive? Are generators really worth $1500? I'm looking around for a semi decent generator and Hondas/Yamahas are thousands of dollars. Even cheap chinese made ones run about $400 or more. Why are they so expensive? I know the engines are pretty simple, is it the motor that creates electricity that's expensive?
