02 honda 400 ex that won't start even if i spray starting fluid in the cylinder new plug and has spark?
Still nothing not even a pop nothing was riding it and it shut off like I hit the kill switch no noise no nothing just idled down please help checked the kill switch its fine timing is fine compression and carb are good valves are fine the only weird thing is trying to start it the intake is wet but the spark plug is dry but even with starting fluid I get nothing not evan a pop nothing please help
There are three things that need to be present to get a "pop" or to have a running engine.
1. Proper air/fuel mixture designed to combust
2. Compression
3. Ignition
So the proper mixture goes in to the cylinder, it gets compressed to the proper ratio, then it gets ignited by the spark plug.
So you have to check all of those things to see where the issue is.
1. Sounds like this isn't the main cause at least because you put in lighter fluid which is very combustable in almost any situation.
2. An easy test for compression, while it may not be the RIGHT compression, is to pull your spark plug. Now put your finger over the hole and manually index the pistons. You should feel a suction when the piston goes down, and pressure when it goes up. If not, could have garbage compression which will prevent proper ignition.
3. Get a spark plug tester to make sure your spark plug is getting proper electricity to fire properly. Just replacing the plugs doesn't always work. You could have bad electronics, could have bad cables, bad contacts, etc.
Try those three things and see if you can figure it out. If not? Sounds like you have to bring it in.
Hey mark I'm American and thanks for your answer what I mean by the intake being wet is after trying and trying to start it I took the carb off the intake boot and its wet with gas pull the plug and its dry I also pulled the air cleaner boot off the carb and sprayed it with the throttle wide open and nothing then I sprayed in the cylinder put the plug in and still nothing
There's a mistake there, you said the intake is wet. How do you know the intake is wet? Did you take the air filter out and put a spycamera inside the venturi so see down the CV carb all the way down to the intake valve? Don't believe it.
You said that the plug is dry it means it isn't WET do you know what that means? There are no misteries with motors, it means there's no mixture getting in, now why is there no mixture?
What is the misture? Are you american or british? If american then you have gasoline mixed with air, otherwise it is petrol, so check those two things you need source of petrol and source of air.
Air, you look at the air filter, for now just remove it, make sure the area is clean you don't want the motor to suck dust/leaves/a dead rat then check source of fuel, for now turn tap off, as the starter motor is turning, spray a touch of carb cleaner or rotor cleaner or ether or easy start into the inlet keeping throttle wacked open full, it will fire, if it doesn't, your problem is also electric, remember that some plugs will fail under pressure, but I think this is gunk in your tank, maybe fuel filter clogged, main jet clogged, maybe water in the bottom of the carbs
- What is this on the cylinder head next to spark plug? (pic)? The top is cracked off mine, honda nsr 80 and there's a connection that is supposed to go on top of it. Will my engine run without this connected?
- 4 cylinder vs 6 cylinder vs 8 cylinder vs 10 cylinder? Which is better to get? On small sized cars such as Honda Civic, Mitsubishi Lancer and Toyota Corolla you're stuck with 4 cylinder, since 6-cylinder is not available as the option What if I get v8 or v10 vehicles… Is there any problems?
- Honda Accord no start. It has spark and I hear the fuel pump winding. Why? I checked for spark in all four spark plugs are firing but when I spray Easter into the breather and crank it it does not even fire up a little bit. I have the fuel pump winding in the fuel tank, but have not tested the fuel pressure. Is there anything that I missing here?
