Is 100K too many miles for a used car that s not a diesel?
People told me that many miles is only OK if it's a diesel. It d be a 2002 Honda car, and I d need to get it checked but it's supposed to be in great condition.
I d probably put at least 10-15K miles on it a year, since where I live everything is far.
Added (1). Darn it, it posted wrong and can't delete now.
No
I bought a Toyota Corolla 5 or 6 years ago that had 100,000 miles on it and I've put 50,000 miles on it since. It needed shock absorbers, and this year I put new tires on it, but that was it except for regular oil changes.
With Japanese cars, it all depends on how well they're cared for, meaning oil changes, brakes, etc. I've seen many Corollas go over 300,000 miles. No reason a Honda shouldn't.
Yes, because that 100k miles the transmission or clutch if is a manual transmission will be worn out and wear out parts too, replacing those wear out parts can be to costly. If it is a very luxury honda that rides very well, then the 100k miles are not to much, because then it might be worth the money to replace the wear out parts to keep the luxury comfy car driving.
Get a mechanic to evaluate it
The scary part is the 2002 Honda. That puts it in the depths of the Great Honda Automatic Transmission Debacle of 1998-2004, when Honda's automatic transmissions on six cylinder engines failed in way under 100K miles. The 4 cylinder transmissions had the problem to a lesser extent. See the source for more. If it is a manual transmission it is worth having your mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection. The engine can make it 250K miles easily but the rest of the car is a concern. Carcomplaints.com rates the 2002 Accord and Civic "Avoid like the Plague." I do not take that lightly.
On a modern car no.
There are cars running well over 250000 miles
The secret is good servicing.
Not at all, 100k miles is typical with today's modern cars.
Its probably ok but its not a guarantee which is why you have a mechanic check it.
Yes it's alot but not for a Honda or Toyota
- How well built it the Chevy Sonic? Built for over 100k miles? Hello… Looking for a work vehicle. Does anyone know how well built these are? And how long they are made for? Comparable to a honda?
- Is it worth buying a used Chevy Volt with over 100K miles on it? The price is right, but is it worth it? I know I would have to install a power charging station which is an additional 1000 dollars. There's one for sale at 14,500 dollars… But most used Volts are around 23,000 dollars. My other two considerations are a new 2015 Honda Fit or a used Mark 6 VW Golf TDI I've seen people on youtube who average 120 mpg with the volt! One guy's was even 1000 mpg, I don't think he even brought it to the gas station since he bought the car!
- How many miles will a 2004 Honda CR-V last, of it was maintained well and not driven hard? I was given a 2004 Honda CR-V by an elderly woman. It has 225K miles and she was the only owner, with no accidents.
- What is a good mileage to look for in a Honda Civic, Scion xB, and Toyota Prius to be used for a few years without too many problems? I'm looking at the above mentioned cars to be used for 1-3 years, but I do not know the mileage to look for. I d like to know the milage lifetime for each car mentioned, and approximately at how many miles the car will survive without having consistent problems. If you could give me the answer for each kind of car, or even one of them it would be greatly appreciated.
