1980 honda twinstar cm200 idles fine dies with throttle?
I just replaced the carb with a new one and checked if the jets were clogged but they arent its idling fine but as soon as i give it throttle no matter how much or how fast it still dies if i do it slowly it seems to work better. The carb goes directly into the engine there's no boot so it can't be a cracked carb boot i've adjusted the needle as well but no difference. I tightened the tube that connects the carb to the ait filter and it is now idling better but it still dies when revved up what's the problem?
OFF IDLEHESITATION (COUGH) is usually a lean condition. Buy some ether or propane and add a little extra fuel and open throttle. If this helps you've verified lean condition. Does the carb have an accelerator pump. Many motor cycle carbs do not but some do. The ones without one do have an enrichment circuit to add extra fuel.
as throttle plate is opened more air is allowed into engine. It takes a bit for the carb main circuit to respond and hence a lean condition. The other thing that effects this is spark timing. Since there's a moment between spark and full flame propagation for combustion the spark must occur before the piston reaches top dead center. This couple of degrees is known as spark advance. Check ignition timing to make sure its correct.
Carbs need to be adjusted, they don't just bolt up.
What you describe sounds like inadequate fuel delivery.
Start by cleaning the filter in the tank, then check that the fuel inlet is clear and the floats working properly.
If there's a vacuum line to the carb, make sure it's connected and not leaking.
If the carb has an accelerator pump, adjust it 3/4 of the way.
Check the intake manifold for air leaks by spraying some brake cleaner around it as the bike idles, if the bike dies when sprayed then there's an air leak.
Adjust the idle/air screw ( aka the fuel: air ratio screw )
If none of the above solves the problem then you have clogged jets or they are way too small.
- Honda twinstar won't start? So my bike was stolen. Two kids walked about a block away with it and a lady confronted them about it being stolen. Lucky for me. So they dropped it on its side and ran. After I got it back I can't see any visable damage. What could be the reason it will not start? This bike is old but has never had problems starting.
- Honda 1980 xl250s problem? My bike will not accelerate in 4th or 5th gear. It runs great in 1st 2nd and 3rd it tops out at about 35-40 in 3rd but once I shift to 4th it just stays at around 35mph. When I give it more throttle in 4th gear it just makes a put put sound and looses speed. Can someone please tell me how to fix this.
- 1980 honda cm200 not starting after i removed and cleaned carb? The motorcycle turns over but will not start up i cleaned the plugs and there's an erratic spark everyone once in awhile coming from the stator
- My 1997 Honda Civic Ex idles between 1500 and 2000 rpms? My car is a manual and it is always between 1500-2000 rpms when I put the car in neutral, I could be driving it for an hour and it would still be idling between 1500 and 2000. What is the reason for this and how much would it cost to fix?
