2006 Honda 400ex chain adjuster broken?
I have a 2006 Honda 400ex and recently noticed that the chain adjuster next to the sprocket and swingarm was broken, like the tom piece was missing. I think this adjuster piece is connected to the bearing/axle housing. Is the adjuster piece part of the housing or is it an individual lock nut because i honestly don't want to have to pay 300+ for a new housing.
Thanks - Clay
According to the picture, the carrier has broken and in need to be replaced. Cost as I've seen as low as $95. Pretty sure the chain is already off the rear sprocket, make sure it is. Loosen the four pinch bolts. Remove right side rear wheel and wheel hub.
Unbolt the 2 bolts holding the caliper on, and set the caliper on something off to the side. Loosen the axle nut to expose the C-clip on the axle. Pry the C-clip loose from it's groove in the axle and slide it off the axle to the right.
Now you can slide the axle nut and sleeve off to the right. Next the brake rotor and hub should slide off and be removed. You may have to tap on the rotor/hub lightly with a rubber mallet while turning if it seems stuck on there.
Now you are able to slide the whole axle out towards the left. Next you need to take off the rear brake stay (caliper bracket). You will need a set of snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring holding the brake stay to the carrier. After that, remove the brake stay (may have to tap with a mallet).
At this point you are left with only the carrier in the swingarm. Tap it with a mallet out towards the left side of the swingarm.
Once the carrier is out, make sure to clean up the inside of the swingarm very well. Follow that by coating the interior with a thin coat of good grease. Put your new carrier in, and reassemble.

Ok thanks man this will forsure help a lot and I tried taking the pinch bolts off earlier but I think the guy before me stripped them off. I was doing some research of how to back them off and kept seeing something about a screw extractor? Have anyone had any luck with those? Or is there other options?
- My honda 2001 honda 400ex started smoking and lost alot of power? It smokes pretty badly like a 2 stroke and doesn't have power like it used to. Could it just be the head gasket it does have a litte oil around it? Or could it be more serious valves and rings?
- Do I need the chain adjuster bolts? I've got a honda crf100f, its not a HUGE rush for what I need it for, but the chain adjuster bolt is broken on one side. Do I NEED the chain adjuster bolt? I have new ones in the mail that will be here anywhere from the 2nd to the 10th
- 2002 Honda 400EX jetting Ok so I'm new to jetting and I was wondering what sizes to use on my bike. I have one dyno jet kit and another kit that comes with some Keihn jets. The dyno jet kit was given to me. The bike is stock except for the Procircut t4 slip on exhaust. What sizes should I use? What jets dynojet or Keihn? My elavation is 3,200 feet to 4,000 above sea level. I also plan on running no lid and stock air filter. Thinks for any help.
- 1999 Honda 400ex stock headlight diameter? I'm looking into getting halo led lights on a 400ex but I don't know the diameter of the head lights. I would measure it myself but my bike is at the shop. Can someone measure their headlight for me please. http://m.myled.com/p5535-led-angel-eyes-car-light-6w-480lm-100mm-blue-light-ring-shape-9-30v.html?currency=USD
