2010 Volvo S80 3.2 is this a good vehicle?
So I'm looking at buying a 2010 Volvo S80 3.2 non turbo. This car is beautiful and whoever owned it before took good care of it. It has 141 thousand miles. And the price after Tax, Title and other fees is $8400. I no nothing about Volvo's but the salesman said that Volvo's are better then Toyota's and Honda's. And that this car was a 40 thousand dollar car brand new. I'm buying this for my wife and I want to make sure she has something reliable and safe.
Yes
Sleazy salespeople will make up stories and tell you anything to try to sell you something. The fact of the matter is that Volvo's are nowhere near as reliable and well made as Toyota's and Honda's. Long ago they were well made cars that could last a long time but modern ones like that are just very expensive to maintain and repair. Plus, that one has a lot of miles and is probably only worth around $6000. Go look at Lexus and Acura instead.
How "good" it is depends on how well it has been maintained and how hard it has been driven. A 1-owner car responsibly driven by an older adult who kept impeccable maintenance records is going to be much better than a 2 or 3 owner car with no maintenance records. At the very least, pay an independent shop who knows Volvo's to do an all-points inspection before you agree to buy it Anything it needs you can negotiate the dealer down on Still it's kind of high mileage for the year I wouldn't buy a 2010 that has more than 100k on it unless the wife is going to be driving less than 10,000 miles a year.
"the salesman said" He's a car salesman. Tomorrow, when he's trying to sell a Honda, Hondas will be better than Volvos.
If a car salesman tells you the sky is blue, go and look for yourself.
How do you know a car salesman is lying? His lips are moving.
"that this car was a 40 thousand dollar car brand new" It's 8 years old. What has the new price got to do with it?
141,000 miles is high for an 8 year old car.
Volvo parts are expensive. Very expensive.
Never take the word of a sales person as absolute truth. Let the car speak to you, not the person trying to make a commission from the sale of the car.
As with any used vehicle, how it has been driven and maintained in the past will have a strong bearing on its present and future reliability. When seriously considering a used vehicle purchase, make it a condition of sale to have it inspected by a dealer or other repair shop of YOUR choosing prior to finalizing the deal. This is your best defense against being saddled with unanticipated repairs within the foreseeable future.
As for Volvo as a company, they make ok cars, not great cars. Volvo's heyday, IMHO, was with the 2-series vehicles from the 70's to the early 90's. They were built like tanks and had a reputation as being very safe and reliable machines.
- What does P mean on a parking ticket where your vehicle type is written? As in: Vehicle GRY HOND P? I received a parking ticket and really can't afford to pay it! My friend told me I should look for typos on the ticket in order to contest it. On the ticket where the vehicle type is listed, the line reads: "Vehicle GRY HOND P". I do own a grey honda, but I was not sure what the P stood for? I tried to google but couldn't find anything - please help!
