94 Honda del sol not starting?
I have a 94 honda del sol that I picked for cheap. I got it home driving, but after leaving it parked for a few days, it would not start anymore. It cranks but engine will not start. I've changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil, fuel filter, fuel pump, and the main relay switch that is common with the hondas for when the don't turn over. I've done pretty much everything on the forums as far as common things that would go bad… Tank is half full, and starter is working just fine. I also just put in a new battery.
I disconnected the fuel hose from the fuel filter and cranked it and found out no gas was coming into the engine. But the fuel pump is brand new, and there's only a single wire that connects to it, so there's now way I could've missed it. Again, the common issue for the fuel pump not starting is the main relay switch, which i've also replaced, but no luck getting fuel to come to the engine. Any ideas what this could be?
You need to go at it more systematically. Check the fuel pump for flow (you did). Now, WHY is there no flow?
Check for power to the pump.
Make sure the fuel pick up is connected and clear.
You said it cranked and that's the same as turning over. It just doesn't start. Try spaying a shot of starting fluid into the throttle body to see if it starts. It sounds like you don't have fuel pressure. Pull the fuel pump relay and jump it to run the fuel pump. The computer shuts off the fuel pump relay in 10 seconds if the motor doesn't start so if you want to check for 12 volts at the fuel pump you'll need to jump the fuel pump relay to check for power at the fuel pump.
The PGM-FI main relay circuits are powered by two fuses… Fuse 18… 7.5 amp and fuse 31… 15 amp. The 15 amp fuse powers the coil side of the relay and the 7.5 amp fuse powers the contact side of the relay to send power to the pump via the yellow/green tracer wire once the coil is energized by the ECM and closes the contacts. So check both of the those fuses and/or for power at the relay connectors. If fuses are good but not getting power at the relay, then check for wiring issues… Frayed/broken wires, loose /corroded connections, etc. Does the relay click when key is turned on?
The relay coil is grounded by the ECM via the green /yellow wire to close the power path/operate the relay which may be bad as well. Are you getting power to the pump at all? Also check the ground wire at the pump for issues if you do get power there… You need power and ground to complete a circuit.
For testing, you can run a fused jumper wire directly from the battery to the pump wiring to turn it on if needed… Just make sure the jumper wire has an inline fuse of the correct rating to avoid frying the pump/wiring.
Wiring diagrams…
Check if the main relay is getting control power and a PCM/ECU provided control ground when cranking. PCM/ECU could be shot.
- Turbo on my honda del sol? I got a 5 speed 93 del sol and i'm inlove with the sound cars with turbo make when people shift. That "pshh" sound like air or gas. Lol i don't know. But is it possible to get that on my delsol? And if so, what do i need to buy? Where to install? And what are the prices?
- Hello there, I'm confused. I have a 93 honda del sol. 1.5L. Automatic. VTEC. Does it have a flywheel? I'm confused. I have a 93 honda del sol. 1.5L. Automatic. VTEC. Does it have a flywheel? The guy I bought the car from said the flywheel is bad. I took it to a shop they said automatics do not have flywheels. Now the 2nd shop says the starter is out and possibly the flywheel. I need to know if i should purchase both the starter and flywheel or just the starter?
- Good colors for a Honda Del Sol? I have a metallic green '93 Honda Del Sol and I can't stand the color. It's getting a paint job, but I'm not sure what color would look best on it. I'm thinking a gunmetal gray. Opinions? haha, I'm a female.
