Can I get a newer used car?

Alright, so I'm financing a 2003 Honda Accord EX V6 sedan. I purchased it back in December, and still have roughly $8,500 left on the loan. I have been disappointed with the Honda's fuel economy, so I'm wanting to trade it in for a fuel efficient 4 cylinder vehicle. Such vehicles in considering are the Kia Forte, Nissan Altima, and Nissan Sentra. Most of the cars I'm looking at are priced between $11,000 and $17,000. I have a credit score of 640 and my current payment per month on my Honda is $315. Do you think I'd be able to get a newer more fuel efficient vehicle with those types of numbers? I know the biggest thing that will affect it is the amount I still owe to the lean holder.

Thanks for considering Kia. We recommend contacting your local dealership and talk to one of our sales associates. They'll be happy to help you find the Forte you're looking for.

No, you won't. You're "under water" on your current vehicle, and a newer car won't really improve your gas mileage enough to justify the added expense. Continue to make your monthly payments on the car you have, and that should help improve your credit score, so when your Honda is paid off, you can afford to get a better car.

Honestly, I'd keep the Honda. You will lose money now if you sell it, plus your payments on the new car will be a lot more. Just out of curiosity, how long is your loan for?

No way, you are thousands upside down. Maybe in 12-18 months if you don't miss any payments.

As long as you have been keeping up with the payments on the honda then I think that you should be fine. Also, your monthly payment may increase a little if you do go with a more expensive car.

  • What is the most reliable used car one can get? Your 3 choices? I'm shopping for an inexpensive vehicle that I can use to run around for errands and groceries in an semi urban area. Something economical on gas and good and reliable. I was thinking Honda Civil? What is your thought on that?
  • Bought a new car and newer version is coming out? In February I bought a 2013 Honda Fit with navigation brand NEW. Now the 2015 is coming out and obviously I owe more than what my car is worth because of the warranty i also purchased with it. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this happen or think possibly the dealer will let me trade my car in for an equal value of the newer car?
  • I have a 1998 Honda CRV with 240 K miles. Needs $1200 of repair to pass inspection. Should i fix or buy a newer used Honda civic? Mike? I'm the original owner and have done a good job with oil changes etc. However, it needs 2 front control arms with ball joints and rear struts to pass inspection. I've also gone past my mileage on a second timing belt (first one done at 90K miles). Car body exterior and interior is in pretty good shape. Inside looks brand new. But repair cost at 1200 + timing belt ~500 =~1700 in repars. Is it time for a newer used auto.
  • Can stock car parts of a newer car go into an older car? Have a 2011 suzuki sx4 not driveable. Driving around a 99 honda crv. is it possible to put the deck of the suzuki (already removed) and place into the crv? The speakers are the same size i'm thinking about those as well but is that much of an upgrade?; I can't find the power of the stock speakers to both cars. Thank you, I had a system in suzuki i removed wanting to put in my crv.
