Can you push start a car with a completely dead battery?
Lets say i leave my 2001 manual honda accord's lights on for a day or two and come back to see the battery is completely drained (not even enough power for the spark plugs). Is it still possible to push start it?
Ok, Yes you can push start your manual Honda Accord if the battery is completely dead. However, you had better be going to the parts house if you get it running. It's all about having enough power to turn the starter fast enough to crank the motor. Not spark plug. I think so. Give it a try. Assuming you have a manual transmission, and assuming you have enough room to push the car long enough for the alternator to begin to produce some sort of electrical charge, the answer is yes. Keep in mind that a dead battery isn't ever completely dead. The battery is considered dead when it is down to 80% of its original capacity. So there's still some electrical charge in the battery; likely enough to excite the alternator and give a charge as soon as the engine spins fast enough. That means push starting your car in first or second gear. Generally second is easier to push start it, but with that low a battery you might need to go for first. The engine spins faster in first, so you may need to go that route.
Now, if it's automatic - you can't push start an automatic transmission. NOPE. You don't have any electricity to make a spark. If you put a magneto and carburetor on it or it was diesel, YES.

- How much of a problem did Hondas have with there push to start feature failing to let their cars start? I have heard some people say Honda had a problem with this. Was it just a few Hondas or was it a big problem?
- Bought a 1985 Honda inspector kid told me it needed new battery but started with jump got new battery and it was dead next day? Pretty sure its the alternator just wanted some second opinions also I got the bike for 600 dollars you guys think thats a good deal
- I have a Honda HRX217 push mower. Backfired when trying to start it, now it won't start? It was running, then I shut it off to open and close a gate, and when I went to start it again there was a really loud backfire and now it won't start. It will sound like it's almost about to start but not. Then get progressively weaker each pull. I changed the spark plug and cleaned the air filter. Any ideas?
- How come my atv won't electric start but will crank if I push start it? 2006 Honda trx. Doesn't have a pull rope only electric start. The starter motor turns over the engine but just won't start but I'll push it down the yard with it in gear and it will fire right up. I'm so confused by this.
