Car does not recognize what gear its in?

I have a 2002 honda accord v6. A couple years ago the transmission went bad and I had to replace it. Ever since then the car has had trouble recognizing what gear it's in. Sometimes it's in park but thinks it's in drive. I usually just have to get out and push it a couple inches for it to click so I can start it. The real problem is when it's in d4 but thinks it's in d3. This seems to happen more when it's cold and letting it warm up and driving it down the road sometimes helps but it is getting worse. I have already replaced the neutral safety switch. What else could it be?

Are you saying that the indicator light on the dashboard says one gear while the shifter is physically in another gear position? If so I would suspect the shifter position switch is faulty. It's inside the shift console & you should be able to check it out with a voltmeter.

Did you adjust the neutral safety switch/range switch properly?

Check for bad bushings on both ends of the shifter cable. Adjust cable if required by checking the "throws" first on both park and the lowest gear and then on all the gears. If cable can't be adjusted, replace cable.

Try checking transmission oil. It should not be black
