Do you think parents should be obligated to buy their kids a car for their 16th birthday?
So I turned 16 last Monday and I kept begging my parents to buy me a car, specifically a 2018 jeep wrangler. Instead all I got was a bunch of jewelry and makeup and a hand me down of my parent's honda accord. I'm very upset because I really wanted the new jeep wrangler. Do you think parents should buy their kids a car for their 16th birthday?
No. You should be lucky to get a pair of underpants for your birthday, you spoiled little brat.
Absolutely not.
I think buying a 16 year old a car is a HUGE mistake.
In fact, I would not buy a card for my child, ever.
My husband and I did not buy cars for our kids (grown now). They saved and bought their own.
Lol! Obligated? Hilarious.
NO, food and shelter is all they obligated to do for you. Get a job and buy your own car, you will take better care of it when you put the sweat in to pay for it.
No, they should be obligated to deny their children a vehicle forever. You want it? Work for it and earn it.
Return the Accord and walk.
Troll
No
Of course not. Any kid that thinks so is just a self entitled brat. You expect to get a brand new car on your birthday?
They should be obligated *not* to. All my kids (now adults) knew the score years ahead of time: they buy their own cars, pay their own insurance, and I will help them with maintenance and repair. The two boys took it in stride but my daughter sulked about her classmates getting new cars given to them. She had saved an entire summer to buy a Corolla that was a few months younger than she was. Then the classmate loaned her new Lexus to her boyfriend, who totaled it, and the classmate got another new one. That is when my daughter realized how messed up it was.
Now all my kids are very car savvy. They know the value of a car and the value of money, they know regular maintenance according to the schedule is important, and my daughter knows a lot more about buying and taking care of a car than her husband does. None of that would have happened if I just gave them a car.
- My parents won't buy me the car I want. Should I sue? It's not like I'm spoiled and want a Lexus, I just want a Honda CRV! Instead they bought me a Honda Fit which is too small and like 1/2 the price!
- Do you think if they call a car a Sport model it should go fast? I remember when I think the Honda Fit/Jazz was called the "Sport model" and it got criticised for having soft suspension. These days "Sport" is used in most cars is used on the one with the most features and not fast cars very much. Should the ones with the most features be calling something else rather than sports?
- Did you know that Philippines is so poor that if you own a car people will think you're rich? I live in the Philippines and I own a 2013 Honda Fit and I sometimes drive it when I go to the University, it's not even expensive. And my friends think I'm rich. Most people here only use underbone motorcycles for transportation, most families don't even own a car.
- I'm planning to buy 2005 Honda CRV, with 140K miles on it, how much worth do you think? It looks in a clean condition. @Lan K, the vehicle looks clean, inside out, clean title, and timing belt and water pump has been changed. He was asking $7000, and Now he come down to $5,600.
