Fuel filter leaking after replacement?
I have a 1996 Honda Accord, the fuel filter was dirty so my boyfriend decided to change it. Now sometimes the gas sprays or leaks in the new filter also leaking from the washers as well. We used a flare wrench and tried tightening it for hours. Put the old fuel filter on and it still does it, and old washers and still does it. What could possibly be causing this? Really don't have the money to go to a mechanic
As you won't go to a mechanic there's no hope for you. Maybe your boyfriend should pay for a mechanic as he ballsed it up? Why you need to consider it the likelihood of a fire under the hood.
You borked it.
If the new washers does not work then in an emergency, I would try teflon tape to the thread.
He did what the mechanic would do- But, replace the gaskets on either side of the banjo bolt, or it will leak. Either do it right the first time, or do it again and again until you get it done right.
I would remove and inspect the Filter. If the ends aren't smooth and flat it will leak. Take it back and ask for another one if it's defective. And look at the Banjo Fitting and make sure it's smooth and flat too. If there are burrs or ridges you could file them down. I just looked and you have a Banjo fitting on one end and a Flare Nut fitting on the bottom. If you didn't start the Flare Nut by HAND you could have cross threaded the filter. Also, it's hard to keep both washers on the Banjo Bolt. And you have to hold the big nut on the filter to tighten, also not easy. You need a stubby wrench or crow foot to hold it.
"We used a flare wrench and tried tightening it for hours". The fittings are shot likely from being overtorqued. Replace the fuel filter, fuel line and the banjo bolt and the seals. Use a ratchet and extensions and a a flex adapter to tighten the banjo bolt.
You have no choice but to see a mechanic! You'll go up in flames if you try using the car with gas leaking!
He probably twisted the metal fuel line and caused a pin hole leak.
Tow the car to the mechanic!
- Where is my fuel filter located? Hi, I have a 1986 Honda Prelude carbourated engine and I was wondering where my fuel filter would be located?
- Where is my fuel filter located? - 1 I have a 1986 Honda prelude carborated engine and I was wondering where the fuel filter is? I'm not very mechanically inclined and need to know exactly where it is so I can change it.
- After changing the air filter in my car, the MPG reading dropped significantly? Last month I changed the air filter in my car because the old one was dirty. However, I immediately noticed a drop in the average miles per gallon-- it dropped by 6 (from 43mpg to 38 mpg). This seems large considering my driving habits have not changed. I still commute on the same route, at the same speed. Is this normal after replacing the air filter? The old one was dirty and needed replacement. If it matters, my car is a Honda Civic sport, 2006/7.
