How long will transmission fluid last on a Honda accord 1997 miles or months or years?

According to Honda, the automatic transaxle fluid (it's a front wheel drive car, so read that as automatic transmission fluid) should be replaced every 30,000 miles.

If you do an average of 30k miles a year then that means every 3 years. Strictly speaking, it should be every 3 years anyway, but if the ATF looks and smells normal and the tranny is operating normally then if the mileage hasn't reached 30k the ATF is still good and doesn't need changing. But definitely check the level and condition of the ATF at least every 3 years, regardless of mileage. As the car is now over 20 years old and transmission seals will be old and hardened, leaks are much more likely to occur. So personally I'd check the fluid levels and condition annually. It's not a difficult or time consuming job.

READ the owner's manual that came with the car. It will tell you how often you should change transmission fluid.

No owner's manual? BUY ONE and THEN read it!

It's a 20 year old car

It does not spoil. If the transmission does not slip or leak, the fluid could be good for 100,000 miles.

If you're talking about ATF change it every 60,000 miles or if it isn't red anymore.

Hi so transmission fluid has a life span like any lubricant.

You are supposed to change the fluid and filter every 5 years or 50000 miles.
It is the transmission that suffers.

Why not blow the dust of f the owners manual?
