How much should I sell a catalytic converter for?

I have a 98 Honda Accord and trying to sell it. A lot of people are asking to buy just the catalytic converter. How do I know how much to sell it for? I see a bunch of different prices online.

Do not sell the converter off the car. It is illegal to sell a car or operate a vehicle without a catalytic converter.

How much do you think the car is worth… That should be the price for the converter since without it the car is worthless!

Only consider selling the Catalytic Converter if you intend to bring the car to a scrap yard for junk.

You can't legally sell or drive the car without the Cat and it will cost you more to replace it than what you'll get from a private party sale.

Also, the scrap yard will inspect the car and the Cat is one of the items they'll check for, since its one of the most valuable components on a junk car. If they see that its missing they will reduce the price they pay you for the car.

I would just not do it at all, sell the whole car. If someone asks about the Catalytic Converter just tell them they can have it if they buy the whole car, then they can do anything they want with the car and its parts after they are the legal owner.

If they want the cat, they got to buy the whole car. Then they can do what they want.CASH only purchase. No financing. They can do that dance with a bank, which you are NOT.

Ask a junkyard. And then try to sell for 25% less.

Metal recyclers will give you an average of $40 for a cat converter.

You should be asking "who would buy a 20 year old catalytic converter?".

1998 in some states doesn't get emissions check or odometer check. Cats are $50.00 scrap for the platinum, some other small amounts of rare earth in newest. New cats to replace stolen depending on car is
$800.00 to $1500.00 from dealers, only source for newest cars. Slightly older models might have a Walker or Maremont interchange - $400.00 to $1000.00 replacement, some simplest cats from 1980s $250.00--what might be needed to pass a inspection in some states. Used cats from salvage wreck less than 10 years or so- $200.00 to $400.00 exchange. Sometimes. Your cat is good yet? Replaced earlier and less than 5 years old? So could be used for passing inspection? At least $100.00 if you are going to maybe scrap rest of car for $80.00/ton You sell cat for what ever you can get and then risk car not selling if your in a state that says seller must pass emissions inspection before transfer.

  • Is my catalytic converter the problem? I have a Honda civic 91 and its a 4th gen sedan. The problem with it is that the engine cranks but it won't start. I checked the spark plugs and they are all good. Battery has been recently replaced. What i don't get is why it starts up at times and doesn't. Could it be by any chance the catalytic converter that's ruined? I checked it recently, it wants to start but it chokes.
  • How could I put a catalytic converter on a Honda civic 2000? OK this honda civic 2000 hatchback does not have a catalytic converter. Is there anyway I could get it new and installed without a problem? My car has a pipe instead of a catalytic converter and it I need it to put the oxygen sensor on it.
  • Does a Honda civic 2000 waste more has without a catalytic converter? I have a Honda civic 2000 without a cat and has a pipe instead, it needs the secondary oxygen sensor. But I was wondering if the catalytic converter affects the gas usage an anyway?
  • Do honda civic 2000 have catalytic converter? OK I was wondering if the honda civic 2000 should have two oxygen sensors. But the problem is all the honda civics that are the same only have one and also doesn't have a catalytic converter. Is this a problem? I'm afraid this is the reason why the car wastes a lot of gas.
