How much will a hit and run affect my car s value?
I want to sell my 2010 Honda Accord. Somebody hit and run my car while it was parked back in February. They did about $6,000 in damage to the rear driver s side of the car; however I got it completely repaired. Will this affect the value of my car significantly if I try to sell?
Yes. When a car has been in an accident it has what is termed "diminished" value due to having been in a wreck. A Car Fax review will reveal the accident. You can find out what that amount is by going to someplace like a Car Max and getting an estimate for your car. Ask them for the value of a similar car that has not been in an accident. You will then know the diminshed value. And why do you want to know that?
With that information in writing you can notify the insurance company who fixed it and try to claim that lost value. If it was your own insurance company you may not want to do that due to getting higher charges for your insurance. But that is an accepted way to recover lost value due to accidents.
No. Not as long as it was not totaled after the damagel.
The damage from the accident won't hurt the value of the car as long as it was properly and professionally repaired. However, a shoddy or poor quality repair will make itself evident in short time, and it WILL have an effect on the overall value of the car.
