How old should my first car be (what year)?

How old should my first car be and also what car would make a great first car? So far I have both Honda Accord and Toyota Camry as two options. Let me know if you have any other ones that may be better. I'm buying my first car by the end of the year. I have never driven a car before and I'm 28 years old. I was told that your first car should not be new because of depreciation and bunch of other things. So I'm thinking of buying a car that's is around 2 to 3 years old. So maybe a Honda Accord 2015 model or a Toyota Camry 2015. What do you think? Should I buy an older model or is 2015 a good first car? Nim looking for something that is confortable, reliable and won't be in need of repar.

Buy a car about 3-5 years old with as low miles as you can find and well-kept service records. That age represents about the best price vs potential repairs because it is new enough to be reliable but old enough for the largest depreciation to have already occurred.

How long is a piece of string? I don't know your circumstances. Buy something between a 2017 new model and a 1955 junker.

2013-14 seems about right; someone else ate most of the depreciation, and relatively few major repairs are needed in a car this age.

Often, a first car suffers the mistakes and misfortunes that attend your getting used to driving and learning the hard way to not make those mistakes. That is the rationale behind suggesting the first car is not a new and expensive one, but something you mind damaging less that that. Get what you can afford. A very low mileage Honda or Toyota may not need much maintenance, but tax, license and insurance will be higher than would be on an older, less valuable car. You're a new driver and have a lot to learn. What would bother you most, needing to repair 2 year old car, or a 10 year old (cheaper) car? Maybe that doesn't matter to you if you have lots of time and money.

I did fine with my ' 63 Ford Galaxy 500… Then my '60 International B 120 after that… Then my ' 72 Cougar ( Loved that one ) and the ' 69 VW Bug W/ Porsche engine…

  • Is it normal for someone to still drive a 20-year-old car? I still see dozens of 20-year-old Hondas and Toyotas every day. Is it a Japanese car thing to last that long or is it normal? I want to get a 20-year-old car soon.
  • Is buying a 12 year old car a bad idea? So I have 4 thousand dollars saved up and found a 07 Honda for sale with 145,000 miles. Should I buy or put my money into something newer? ok I was wanting to buy a car and not have a monthly payment but I don't want to waste my money. It took me a year and a half to save this
  • How old of year of forks from a CRF450R fit my 2015 450? I have a 2015 honda 450, looking to buy the standard style spring forks off of an older bike. Does anyone know what years would fit?
  • How can I negotiate a 2 year old car model? I'm in the market to buy a new car but I saw the new 2018 Honda Fit are out. I also saw the dealership had a 2016 Honda Fit LX, it is priced at 16k. If a new 2018 Honda Fit with Honda sensing standard starts at 16k, how much should I even get a 2016 base model with no Honda sensing? I know 16k for a 2 year old Model is crazy but what's the lowest can I negotiate for? 10k? 12k?
