How to get car insurance? I'm 17?

So my mom recently gave me a 2001 honda accord ex 2001 coupe i'm 17 i just got my license, i'm from california, she has allstate, she said she didn't wanna put my name because it would be expensive, is it better if she just adds the car to her plan and just gets liability, will that cover me if i ever get pulled over or hit? Sorry i'm new to the insurance stuff lol

So you call an insurance company, ask to buy coverage and because you are not yet 18, they will require a parents signature. So

so call an agent and get the details… So

You do not as have to be 18 to sign legal document in USA

WOW! Your in for trouble… This is the MOST common asked about issue we get daily!

here is the short version…

1. Anyone can buy an auto policy as long as they are of driving age, you do not need a licnse, you do not need to own a car, even with an international drivers license mostcompanies will write a policy

2. Every mom and dad tries to find a way to not have their insurance premium triple, YES, i said triple! You teens do not understand how much your parents pay for you to drive!

3. Insurance is attached to the car, not the driver, so if your cousin from boston visits and he has no car, but has a license and wrecksyour car while going pick up a pack of smokes, everything is fully covered

3… As long as he IS NOT A REGULAR DRIVER OR SHARE YOUR SAE ADDRESS!

4. Your scheme will work as far as when you get pulled over and acop asks for proof ofinsurance

5. If you get in an accident, the insurance company, as per the contract your mom signed, will not be liable to pay, so she will have to pay for damages and if sued have to cover that too! Most major admitted insurancecompanies will cover the loss but will then drop you! If you have cut rate non-standard insurance like geiko, the general, go auto, omni, basically all the BS companies you sign up with online or advertise on the tv and radio your mom is screwed! They will go to court not to pay!

in short, bite the bullet, get a job, pay the $200-$300 a month it will cost a new teen driver to get coverage…

this is a strictly hypothetical, fictional, whatever keeps me not liable for this situation, but…

in theory, if a person where to show proof that they lived at lets say their grandmother's house and get a drivers license with her address on it showing legally they do not legally live with the registered owner of the car…

You have to be a registered driver for the car or the plan. If she just adds the car but not you you don't have insurance.
