Replacing my starter costs 641 dollars for Honda Accord?

Basically asking if I got ripped off. I went to go pick up my car today and got with the ridiculous price of 641 dollars for a new starter/installation. They apparently charged me 280 dollars for the part and then they charged me 289 dollars for labor. Now I'm no master mechanic but I know for a fact a certified mechanic can change out a starter in less than 2 hours. I really feel like this price is unjustified. Anyone with insight? The car is an 01 accord lx

What city are you in? Prices can vary greatly. Usually they call with the quote so you know the price.
The three hours labor seems a bit much, but I would put it like this, you paid full dealer price.
Those are just the normal prices. Guessing the honda OEM is $190 and they mark that up to $280.

An chain shop like Goodyear, Pep, Boys NTB, etc might have been at 200 for the part and 200 for the labor.
Owning a 2001 you need to find a local shop that you can trust and just go there all the time. Also negotiate and do your homework.
So no I would not say you were ripped off, but at least you got a top quality part and a good warranty.

The price on the starter I can see. But the labor seems very high. I would go back to the shop and ask the to show you the flat rate book so you can see the labor time for your car. If it shows 3 hours and the skop rate is 90 an hour then I guess you're stuck with it. If it shows an hour then complain to the shop manager. If they won't correct it then file a complaint. No idea where you live but in many states it's called the BAR (bureau of automotive repair). File a complaint with the BBB too.

The labor shouldn't cost more than the part. It's easy to put in.

Yeah, you got ripped off. But what are you going to do about now?
When go to shop and they say they wiil prob have to replace for starter.
Or anything.
You ask them how much will cost first.
When you don't do that, then they will bill you the maximum amount they can get away with.

Also they marked up the price of the starter by $150 so it didn't look like that they charged you $450 to install it, which what they did.

But when you don't requrire them to give you a price before you sign the work order.
Thats usually what happens.
