Shifting manually on a failing automatic transmission?
Okay, so I have a 02 Honda accord v6 coupe. My transmission is failing. It has issues with the 1st and 2nd second gear; it like jumps or something, it's weird. I realized that shifting it manually gives it a much smoother, more consistent acceleration. I.e. It is faster, and doesn't "stutter" between the first, second and sometimes third gear. I read it's not harmful, but in MY specific case, can it be helpful?
The wrong ATF can cause hard shifts. There may also be PCM reflash updates that address your problem. Might be best to do a dealer visit on this one.
If its sounding smoother your probably doing it good. So i would continue doing it manually but get it checked out or replaced as soon as possible or the only place you'll be shifting is on the side of the road lol

- Does shifting in an automatic damage the car? My car (Honda pilot 2011) has a 1/2/3 setting on the car and if I use that while driving will I damage anything? I typically use it when I'm driving for fun and shift it at red line and then shift it back into drive at the end of 3rd gear. My old car was a stick and I miss it but will it hurt the car besides the normal wear and tear?
- Is it hard to do an oil change on a 1992 honda prelude automatic transmission? So i have an automatic 92 honda prelude. Its a 2.2l engine non vtech, and I've been wondering if i should do an oil change on the tranny. Main questions i have are, is it hard? Would i need to change the filter? Or simply just drain out the oil and add new oil in? Any help will be well appreciated. I want to do this on my own i don't want to spend over 100 dollars at an auto shop lol.
