Should I get a new car or newer used car?

I'm in college right now and work full time. I nearly commute 70 Miles daily when I go to work and school but 40 when I only work. I'm currently driving a car my dad gave me for my birthday but I don't like depending on him giving me stuff, eventually I would have to give the car back. I don't want a beater car because lordy I saw my sister and brother go through that and they invested too much money in their cars. So I'm wondering should I get a new car like a 2016\17\18 Honda Civic, 2018 Honda Accord, or something newer but used like a 2014 Mazda 3, 2015 Nissan Maxima. Note I'm not into small compact cars nor coupes. I don't like American cars nor Toyota. I droved a corolla before that was bad.

Used Honda Accord Sport

If you are buying a car, you should be looking on AutoTrader. I bought my van from there. It is the best website to shop for cars.

I would rather get a used more reliable car than a new car because it! S just cheaper in the long run. A new car has something like several hundred on the excise tax but a used car is significantly less. Insurance on a new car is a lot more than an old car. With all the new standards and whatnot, it costs more to fix if something goes wrong.

Since you drive that many miles, a new car isn't going to get you that much back when you sell it. A used car isn't worth much to begin with so you don't feel that bad.

Most cars within the past 5 years can go 100,000 miles without any major problems as long as you take car of it.

I would suggest getting a used car with under 30,000 miles on it. It will save you thousands just because of the exponential deprecation you see with a new vehicle when you drive it off the lot. I just started college and I got a 2015 Volkswagen and I like it but VWs typically come with higher matience costs. I know hondas are really good cars as far as mateince and long term goes but they are more expensive up front. Personally I don't like Mazda, Hyundais, toyotas, or American brands.

No car is an investment. Newer cars depreciate a lot while older cars don't but require higher maintenance/repairs.

Qualifying for a loan may be an impediment for you.

Toyota is one of, if not the most popular car in the world. I wouldn't dismiss them based one on car or model.

You must shop all sources to find a car that will serve you and gets good mileage… Your best price is going to be a Subaru or KIA… Something like that == Keep at the school and work and read newspapers and look at craigslist == just do not buy a car without personal inspection and a test drive… Maybe you can get your DAD to help look at the car you find… If you check there may some cars that are reasonable and new and no interest that have low monthly payments… A fancy car is for after you get out of college and have better income…

Used

Used car since your in college. Plus you could never tell how our economy is going to be like with all the corporate greed that is going around

You got a car for your birthday, why would you have to give it back. How about just keeping it?

  • Bought a new car and newer version is coming out? In February I bought a 2013 Honda Fit with navigation brand NEW. Now the 2015 is coming out and obviously I owe more than what my car is worth because of the warranty i also purchased with it. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this happen or think possibly the dealer will let me trade my car in for an equal value of the newer car?
  • I have a 1998 Honda CRV with 240 K miles. Needs $1200 of repair to pass inspection. Should i fix or buy a newer used Honda civic? Mike? I'm the original owner and have done a good job with oil changes etc. However, it needs 2 front control arms with ball joints and rear struts to pass inspection. I've also gone past my mileage on a second timing belt (first one done at 90K miles). Car body exterior and interior is in pretty good shape. Inside looks brand new. But repair cost at 1200 + timing belt ~500 =~1700 in repars. Is it time for a newer used auto.
  • Can stock car parts of a newer car go into an older car? Have a 2011 suzuki sx4 not driveable. Driving around a 99 honda crv. is it possible to put the deck of the suzuki (already removed) and place into the crv? The speakers are the same size i'm thinking about those as well but is that much of an upgrade?; I can't find the power of the stock speakers to both cars. Thank you, I had a system in suzuki i removed wanting to put in my crv.
  • Where can I get a newer car with poor credit and trade in my current car? I have a 99 honda civic DX coupe, it's worth in KBB is about 1000 right now. I wanted to trade it in, and finance a newer civic at my local Honda dealer but with my credit a little low would that even work? I also wouldn't have a down payment besides my trade in
