Should I repair my car? Honda accord? - 2
I have a Honda Accord 2001 ex coupe (black) with 174k miles. I need to buy a new radiator, 2 new motor mounts, new brake rotors, alignment, timing belt, water pump. All this will cost about 350$ plus the labor work probly 550$ Is it worth fixing? Or should I just sell it and save for another car. I'm 17 btw & Live in CA. How much longer would it last if i fixed it?
Telling you from experience, try to put the car in decent drivable shape. Then sell the car and invest into a different car. You will find that you will keep throwing money into the car and something ELSE will break.
Do as much of the work as possible yourself.
Cars are money pits, a new car if you're lucky won't cost more then 2-3 hundred dollars a year to service, a cheap new car here in AZ will cost you an additional 4-5 hundred in license lieu tax, and insurance several hundred more a year compared to a 12 yearold, you'll pay more in sales tax then to repair your old Honda… A new car will loose a few thousand dollars in value when you leave the lot… Few cars ever made are investments and unless you're Leno you don't drive them, but a few times a year.
you have a used car now, if everything is good other then your list, I would fix it and be happy. These accords will easily go well over200K, oh the plastic will crack and break.
the mileage you claim to drive it should serve you well through college.
Have the Honda dealer evaluate it(tell them you want to budget for repairs, you'll need it for a few years) usually cost Free to125. Your current list is regular service items that used cars normally need except the radiator.
Buy new then repairing it
- I have a 1998 Honda CRV with 240 K miles. Needs $1200 of repair to pass inspection. Should i fix or buy a newer used Honda civic? Mike? I'm the original owner and have done a good job with oil changes etc. However, it needs 2 front control arms with ball joints and rear struts to pass inspection. I've also gone past my mileage on a second timing belt (first one done at 90K miles). Car body exterior and interior is in pretty good shape. Inside looks brand new. But repair cost at 1200 + timing belt ~500 =~1700 in repars. Is it time for a newer used auto.

- How to repair a rounded bolt head on rear brake caliper in a tight space? 1996 Honda Accord? I was replacing by brake pads on my 1996 Honda Accord when I noticed the top bolt on the caliper was rounded off. It is a 12mm bolt and there's little to no space to deal with this. I'm not sure how to get it off since it is in such a tight spot with no room to really do much. Any suggestions on how to remove this stubborn thing?
