Terrible gas mileage on my honda accord? 12 mpg?

My 4cyl 2005 accord is getting about 12 mpg… I Reset my odometer before last fillup, and drove almost to empty. Total miles driven 167. It took me 12.97 gallons to refill. I'm driving on 17 inch tsx rims but can't imagine this being an issue. Any ideas how this is possible? No fuel leaks either. New spark plugs and oil/air filter just changed a few days ago at half a tank, and mileage remained the same.

I think you better look for a gasoline leak like I did.

It could be mechanical, but it's also possible someone is stealing your gas. Does anyone have access to your car? Do you ever leave it unlocked?

If you changed to a different tire diameter, it's means your mileage numbers are wrong. Your odometer and speedometer are calibrated to the original tire size. A different tire size screws up both readings.

Is somebody syphoning your gas?

Have you been getting your valves adjusted every 60,000 miles? Honda's have a common problem with tight valves.
The timing belt should be checked to see if the belt jumped too.

If you put larger diameter tires on it, numbers will tell you your getting better gas milege, but you will be getting worse, opposit for smaller diameter tires

Is the check engine light is on read the codes ans see what they are.A big vacuum leak would also do that or maybe stuck pcv valve

  • Poor gas mileage on my 97 honda prelude? For some reason i've been getting pretty bad gas mileage on my 5th gen 1997 prelude. I bought the car about 3 months ago and i've noticed i waste way too much gas i really don't know what it could be i've been told to check the o2 sensor but i don't know how to do that or what to even check for, any help will really be appreciated
  • Honda Fit Gas Mileage problem? I hope some guys on here can help. I bought a 2013 Honda fit automatic which only had 11k miles on it. The car guzzles gas like there's no tomorrow. Tried fuel injection treatment, tire pressures good. No gas tank leaks. What could be going on?
  • What's the best automatic Honda Civic 1996-98 model (ex. Dx.lx. Etc) as far as gas mileage and reliability? I was interested in the 96-98 hx cvt civic yet there are many complaints of heavy vibrations when stalling. Also I can't drive manual and can't afford to take lessons
  • How to trust a cars mileage when unplugging the speed sensor stops the mileage from ticking? My speedometer just went out and I noticed the mileage stopped tacking. I did some research and found I just need to replace the sensor. Then after a few youtube videos, I realized that anyone could just unplug the sensor and drive 100k miles, plug it back in, and sell it for a good price. Is there a way to check the history of a cars driving without mileage add-on through its computer to avoid buying from a liar? I'm referring to 1998 honda civics.
