What does it mean when i crank the ignition over and the car makes no noise and i loose power everywhere?
I have a 1998 Honda Accord. When I try to start the car I get no noise like if the battery is dead. And when I tried to jump start it, the lights come back on but when I turn the key to try and start the car the power goes out again. Also, my car won't let me shift into anything even when my key is clicked over. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Your battery is toast. When jumping a battery that is this low you have to leave the other car hooked up and running for a good 15 minutes and when you are trying to start it have the other driver rev the engine up to around 2500 rpm and hold it there and make sure the cables are hooked up securely. At this point the car should at least try to turn over. With the shifting you still have to press the brake to shift into other drive modes. Another trick is off to the side of the gear selector you will see a small slot big enough for a key to fit in it may be covered by a plastic tab remove the tab and place the key into this slot it will allow the transmission to shift.
Clean the battery cables and posts. Charge the battery for 6 hours with a portable battery charger set to 12 volts. 10 amps. Try staring it again. If it starts go to an auto parts store and have the alternator and battery tested.
Sounds like a dead cell or two in the battery.
An auto parts place like Pep Boys or Autozone should be able to test it for you.
Take the 12 volt battery to any store that sells new ones other than Auto Zone. Ask for a free 15 second *battery load test to see what the reserve amperage capacity is. Amperage spins starter motors not voltage.
- Hit a pothole, car makes scratching noise on bumps? I hit a pothole going about 50 mph on a highway entrance ramp. Car drives fine but on any sort of bump/dip in the road, the car makes a scratching/grinding noise from the left front tire (the tire that hit the pothole). It's an 05 Honda pilot, not lowered. What do y'all think it might be?
- 4 stroke 50cc scooter makes loud buzzing noise at 55 KPH and won't go over 60KPH? I have a fairly new 4 stroke 50cc Honda scooter. I recently put in a new CDI hoping to increase performance. It helped a little bit, but when I go over 55 KPH I start to hear a high pitched buzzing sound and the bike won't go past 60. Even on a flat surface. I'm not sure what the problem is. Does my bike have some kind of limiter? Is it the pulley or muffler? Or is 60 kph the fastest my bike will go?
- Why does my car overheat and spray coolant EVERYWHERE? I have a 2002 Honda Civic EX and I have an overheating problem. When I drive my car for about a half hour, my temp. Gauge rises and white smoke is coming from the hood. I pop the hood after I park and turn it off and I see coolant All over my engine and grill. I replaced the radiator and thermostat…
- What does a noise coming from steering wheel of a 2011 Honda civic mean? The noise is coming from the inside of the car. It is right by the steering wheel. Every time i move the steering wheel even slightly it makes a slight faint noise. The steering wheel turns fine and is not stiff. The noise is definitely inside basically when I'm driving a slightly turning the wheel.
