Which one of these cars would be best for me?
A 1996 Infiniti i30 or a 1991 Honda Accord coupe. They are both automatics. I currently own the Infiniti, but thinking of doing a trade for the Accord. I've never owned an Accord, but I'm sick and tired of putting in Premium gas. This thing also kills me in gas when I drive in town. I hear so many good things about these cars. What do you think?
The Infiniti is 19 years old while the '91 Accord is getting very close to 25 years old.
At this stage of any vehicle's life, general traits about a particular model don't matter as much as how each example has been driven and maintained in the past. At least you know how well the I30 performs on a daily basis. That would be a big unknown with the Accord.
I would personally just stick with the Infiniti and pay the little bit extra in fuel costs.
BULLPUCKEY! The average price of a gallon of PREMIUM gasoline is about 20 cents more than a gallon of regular grade gasoline. The average car owner fills up with 10 gallons of gasoline, so @ 20 cents per gallon, that means you spent $2.00 more to fill with premium than with regular. That's less than a Starbuck's coffee or a shot of Red Bull.
If you can't afford that, then you shouldn't be driving in the first place. USE premium when the manufacturer says the car needs it.
A 96 I30 is a glorified Maxima. But a 91 is 23 years old. Tough call. I'd reconsider both and see if you can find something newer.
The Honda may get a little better fuel economy but you would probably lose money in the trade unless it was a straight across swap with a private party.
I generally favor a regular over a luxury car but I don't see any need to trade down to a 5 year older car. No guarantee the older car will be any better.
And are you sure you must put premium in it?
I mean, so what if it pings?
