Why my car is always overheating when i turned on the a/c?

I have 1994 honda accord exi and everytime I turned on the a/c for about an hour my engine overheat.

Your air conditioner, when it is turned on, draws a load from the engine. The engine is working to turn the pulley to drive the compressor and the load is not inconsiderable. A/C causes a significant loss in fuel mileage in most vehicles.

Anyhow, it sounds like your cooling system is not working efficiently. Fordetails visit…

Like Alan says, check the fan, plus check coolant levels. Replace thermostat and radiator pressure cap. These are typical issues when cars overheat.

Also make sure your engine coolant is ok. I agree with Alan's post as well

When the ac is running., make sure the electric fan by the radiator is also running. If it is good. If not then you may have either a fan motor problem or heat sensitive sending unit problem. The sending unit is located somewhere on the engine. Follow the wires till you find it. Not a expensive repair. Screw the old one out. Screw the new one in. If you suspect the motor, run 12 volts directly to it from the battery. If it doesn't run then it needs to be replaced. Look around and you will probably be able to find used parts.

  • Why are those round type mufflers always mounted sideways? Those round can shaped mufflers are always mounted pointing slightly sideways. Why? And why are they only on certain cars such as hondas subarus mitsubishi evos and dodge neons
  • Why is my car overheating? - 2 Back in June, my 2002 Honda Civic began to overheat every day. Repair shop put a new thermostat in and it ran perfectly. Problem solved! Or so I thought. It ran fine for about 6-8 weeks. Then it started overheating again out of nowhere. Another new thermostat was put in, thinking the old one may have been defective. My car ran fine for another 6 weeks or so and then it started to overheat again out of the blue. What the heck? Repair shop is puzzled.
  • Why is my car overheating? - 1 I just replaced my thermostat in my 95 Honda civic, it fixed the problem for a few hours but when I went home and let it sit for a few hours and got back into it, it overheated within 5 min. I checked the oil, coolant, and there was plenty. However my fan was not turning on, and my heater was cold. So I wired the fan to the battery only because I needed to make it home and it turned the fan on but it didn't stop or fix the overheating. The fuses are good too… Please help!
  • Why is a Honda Civic always a car of ridicule in the US? I often see these cars in memes. Some say its pretty fast in stock form and able to pick at some unsuspecting american fast cars and others say its the cheap choice of Asian home care employees. I'm getting mixed opinions so somebody anybody compare this car with the cars in the US?
