Will changing my own oil and doing all the maintenance on the maintenance schedule void my warranty?
So I'm very mechanically inclined a d have always worked on my own cars. My credit just got better so I bought a brand new 2018 honda accord. My question is will doing all the maintenance work myself void the warranty. It is about due for a oil change and they want $69.99. I can do it for half that price. Along with everything else. Tire rotations, air filters, valve adjustments. Only thing I can't do is tear down a tranny and it has a CVT and from what I understand that's good for 100k miles… It'll be gone long before that.
Depends on the warranty. You'll have to read it. Some do, others don't. Often if you got an additional one from the dealership, that one will require they do the work.
It's not necessary to have the dealer do all this work. However, if you're wise, you'll save every last receipt from Pep Boys or wherever, just to demonstrate that the work has indeed been done.
It won't void it but may not support it. A friend saved the receipts for all the oil and filters he bought but when he took his Toyota to the dealer for fixing smoke on startup the dealer said the receipts mean nothing - the oil could have been used anywhere. The dealer said the valve train had varnish and refused to honor the warranty.
Spend the money and get it done at the dealer. They do not have any recourse but to fix the car when it is broken and under warranty. The dealer (and the manufacturer) will do their very best to void the warranty if you can't show anything that can prove that maintenance work was done on the car. A $300 an hour lawyer is more expensive than a $30 savings doing your own oil change.
It doesn't pay to change your own oil.
If you want any hope of getting a customer good will extended warranty for when your CVT tranny goes bad it's best to have records at the dealer.
I think you answered your own question because your Owner's Manual will explain why I think so. The complexity of your 2018 Accord's component's design puts you at a disadvantage no matter how good you think are. Just one thing about the C.V.T, Honda will have correct transmission fluid and tools for that type of transmission fluid change. Bottom line, it's not worth the frustration to DIY.
- Do installing fog lights void warranty? I purchased Honda Amaze S i-vtec, last week. I wish to get installed fog lights in my Car, as fog lights don't come preinstalled in this version. Will it void my Warranty from Honda if I get it installed from another dealer. Please reply
- Will installing LED lights on my NEW 2015 Honda Civic void the warranty? Ok so, about 2 weeks ago I picked up a BRAND NEW '15 Civic from my local dealer, and some bulbs on my car are LED others are not. I was wondering that if I switched all my lights to LED if that would void the warranty/extended warranty? Being that the lights are "aftermarket". And also, can I use regular LED bulbs or do they have to be "CANBUS Compatible?" LED bulbs
- Oil Change: Honda Motor Oil Vs Generic oil, does it make a difference? I have been getting oil changes with Honda motor oil for 15 years on my 2002 civic that now has 132K miles. If I switch to a generic $10 oil change garage shop will it still be ok? I know the Honda filters are better then the cheapest generic ones but how about the actual motor oil?
- Does plasti-dipping the rims/front grill void any warranty or lease terms? My friend leased his 2017 Civic, and he wants to put a coating on the rims cause he wants it all black and also the front grill. He said the plasti dip comes off very easily so if Honda does a tire rotation and they notice its black he can just tell them that it comes off. Like its not like he is physically changing anything to the car.
