Any recommendations on a good car for first time driver?
I'm a 22yr old female and am just about ready to finally get my first car. I'm wanting something that is generally known for being reliable, good on gas and nothing sporty. I'm not interested in Hondas as my brother has gone through two already due to their unreliability. They were both kept up but he was constantly having to put in a lot of money into those cars so I'd like to hopefully avoid those.
Added (1). They were his everyday cars for college, only being driven 4 days a week. One last maybe 2 years and the other a year.
Added (2). Yeah I only have a $5,000 budget for the car so I can't afford anything too new!
A new kia rio. I bought 2015 kia rio last year
Hondas are known for their reliability; what was your brother doing to those cars?
I have a 2013 Chevy Cruze and I love it! It's got great gas mileage and a nice, smooth drive.
I have 2 older Subarus, love them. They are great all around cars.
The best car is your list PLUS paid for with cash.
Buy a used Mercedes. Even though parts are more expensive things rarely ever break and never twice. One that is up to 1998 before they added a lot of fancy computer things. And not the C series. You can look forward to running up to about 450 thousand miles, maybe more with just routine maintenance, like gas a tires and brakes sometimes. Also the Mexicans that came to the US and start their own shops do not charge more like other shops do just because it is a Mercedes. Mercedes are like other cars, but built better. They use metric socket set tools instead of the regular, that is all.
Don't' buy anything w/o reading CR.

- Need recommendations for a Minivan or SUV for 6'5 driver? I tried the Honda Odyssey and Pilot but they are just a bit too short in leg room (head space is fine). I'm looking for a 2012-2014 model… Any tall drivers with advice?
- Is 2004 Hyundai Sonata V6 too much for first time teenage driver? I recently bought 2004 Hyundai Sonata for $3000 (with my money that I earned by working at little caesars) It is my first car and is my first year driving (yes, I did all driver's training and such). All my friends have small cars like Toyota Corolla, VW Jetta, and Honda Civics. I'm aware that my car eats much more cars than my friends cars. Is my car way too much for me to handle? Should I sell my car and get a different one?
- Good first car recommendations? Besides honda civic, toyota corolla. I need more ideas. I'm really, thinking about the civic but i need more ideas so please help no bs.
- Taking my car into the shop for the first time (my first car and first time at a shop)? Recently acquired a 1999 Honda Accord for $1500 with only 160k. Runs great but my dad checked car and said oil is low and then proceeded to check the rest of the car and said all my fluids need to be replaced. What does that mean and what is the price for fixing this? I want to go to the shop with some sort of understanding of the prices so I know if I'm being ripped off or not.
