Are jeep wranglers a good first car?

I'm only 14. Almost 15 (in 3 months) and I know it's still early but I'm thinking about my first car. I've grown up in and around many SUVs, but we've never owned a jeep. Well, my grandparents live on a farm and recently bought a Honda Pioneer. I drive that thing around all the time. After they bought that they bought a dune buggy, and I drive that around their ranch too.

The pioneer is just like a jeep wrangler, just without windows and a windshield. I'm a very safe driver, I drive my parents and brothers around all the time and everyone says I'm good. (Obviously I'd still need more practice)

I fell in love with a jeep wrangler I saw and ever since then I've wanted one. What do you think?

A Honda Pioneer is absolutely nothing like any kind of Jeep. Seriously kid! Get a small car that is more practical, graduate high school, go to college and graduate, pay off your debt then go get a Jeep.

I'm a Wrangler owner and while I love my Wrangler I'll to say it's NOT a good choice for a daily driver. Too much noise(wind and road), the ride is rough, passenger and cargo space is limited and the mileage is horrible. With it's narrow track and short wheel base it's great for off roading or just out exploring back roads it a fun vehicle, but those attributes also make it unstable when making accident avoidance maneuvers on the street. So you have to be not just a good driver but a good defensive driver. Give it a few years and if you still have the bug for a Wrangler get one as a second vehicle.

No and you should follow your grandpa's choice.

Nope, especially not for a teenage driver. Wranglers have never been known for good crash test ratings, and usually have higher insurance premiums as a result. On top of that, you're a teenager, which means your premiums are already going to be high. They're also not too great on gas mileage, so you're going to be dropping more money on gas than you might with another vehicle. Wranglers work better as a secondary vehicle, not a daily driver.

Sorry to burst your bubble, if I did.

If you want a off road based vehicle get a Toyota 4runner there a little better on gas if you keep it on ECO mode and they last 4 ever I like Jeeps a lot but I wouldn't recommend them as a first car

  • Is a BMW E30 90-91 a good first car/ project car? I'm looking into getting my first car but also want something to build up and make my own. So far i want a rwd import. No Hondas. Any suggestions?
  • Is the new Jeep Cherokee good off road? Specifically the base Sport model with FWD. I know it's not gonna be rock crawling or mud bogging, but with a good set of all terrains, could it handle occasional dirt roads/trails/wet grass? Do the base models have under body protection? I mean I could just buy a Honda CR-V or Toyota Rav4 if it's at the same level. What about a Cherokee sport with 4WD? Would it be any better?
  • Will it cost more to insure a Jeep or regular car.like Honda? I was thinking to trade in my Honda civic 2005 for a Jeep Liberty 2008. But if the insurance will be much higher.than I will not. Any guesses would be great or any way to find this out.
  • Is a Jeep Wrangler a good first car? Or Honda Civic? I'm a 19 year old girl and looking to purchase my first car very soon. I take my license test in about 2 1/2 weeks (late, I know) and I'm debating between the Jeep Wrangler and a Honda Civic. I'd most likely get an older Jeep Wrangler (2007-2013) and I would get a newer (2016) Honda Civic. I love both a lot but am wondering which one would be a better buy for me. Thoughts?
