Can you put a 7 speed manual transmission in a car that comes stock with a 4 or 5 speed manual transmission?

I'm just curious to know if this is possible or if anyone has tried it. I wany to know what is possible to get the most out of a car. I'm probably going to be getting an acura(no hondas) and doing the necessary upgrades, turbo and all that. If anyone has any experience let me know

Its a pain in the *** to do, all the machining involved to put 2 more gears? You don't imagine…

Not worth it

I know acura is honda but i'm not interested in any honda labeled cars. And thanks

Umm…

First off, Acura IS Honda. So yes, you're probably going to be getting a Honda.

Secondly, there are exactly zero 7 speed manuals available for all Honda products.

In fact, the ONLY 7 speed manual I know of, isn't out yet, and it's by… Porsche. So it won't work in anything but a Porsche anyways (rear engine, the gearbox is flipped backwards).

If the same engine is used with a newer transmission that has more gears, then it is usually fairly easy to retro fit that newer transmission to an older model car with the same engine. But newer transmissions may not be cheap because there have been few wrecks with them.

You don't find many 7 speed manuals around unless they are custom plenty of sixes though. More gears doesn't make the car faster. It causes more gear changes and a wider variety of gears personally it is a waste of resources. The transmission is going to cost 5 times more than the car is worth. And Acura is Honda.
