2001 Honda Civic EX problem?

My 2001 Honda Civic EX has been having problems when driving, it somewhat hiccups at random, and quite often might I add. It doesn't really matter the incline of the road, it still does it. My gas shot down from a half a tank to almost empty, which made me think it is the fuel filter, but that was just recently replaced. It also often stalls the engine, mostly in drive, this is an automatic. It was having trouble starting for a while, but that issue has seemed to sub side, but the other issues are still persistent. Check engine light came on, but it hasn't come back on since we replaced the battery. I could take it somewhere, but it is really undrivable.

You'll need to check for code on the check engine light, the light come on and goes off or flashing indicates a misfire problem and the code(s) stores in the ECM. Auto Zone and Advance auto part stores will scan it for free.

Have the ignition system check out if you don't want to do it yourself, spark plugs and ignition coils will be my primary suspects. This video may help:

You can clean out the throttle body/ Air intake:

E mail and let me know what code(s) the Civic has in the ECM and if you have more questions. HTH
