2005 Honda Civic 1.6i EP2?
I've had a 2003 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 now for the past 11 months, and can honestly say I'll be glad to see the back of it - had £1300 repair bills on it. I'm looking at my next car being the Honda Civic 1.6i (EP2) because of the low insurance, low cost and seemingly low running costs. Been looking at around 2005 models (facelift) with full service history (naturally) and hoping for one with <80,000 miles on it.
I've just got a couple of questions for them really, so here goes:
-Are they reliable with FSH?
-Are there any common problems or warnings I should know of before buying?
-Is the fuel consumption good? (Says average of around 30mpg on paper, but it always lies)
-Are they generally good cars? (Good to drive, good to own etc.)
I'm not looking for anything particularly fast (that'll be after uni) or flashy, but something with a bit more poke and style than my severely underpowered Corsa.
I've heard that you have to listen out for the gearbox bearings going, so if anybody knows how much a fix for this normally costs, please let me know.
Any secondhand car is only as reliable as the previous owners' maintenance allows it to be, so don't get too carried away with ideas the 'Brand X is a reliable car', because at nearly 10 years old all bets are off.
That said, a well cared for Honda should be fit for 15 years 150K+ miles, and the Civic is a very nice car. Fuel economy isn't a Honda strong point as they tend to be a bit more performance oriented, but you should see over 30 mpg as an average so long as you're not caning it or driving in rush hour traffic all the time. To be honest, the 1.4 will feel a lot faster than a 1.2 Corsa, so don't discount them.
Just do all the normal used car checks, and consider paying the £100 or so for a proper inspection, it can often save you a lot more than it costs.
Iiv just rececntly bought an ep2, upgraded from a civic 5 door. They are definitely reliable especially if they have full service. Its gonna be quicker than your corsa and it does look quite impressive for its price. I wud definitely reconmend it
in terms of fuel consumption, i get about 31 mpg and i drive harshly at times. So your looking at 40-50 miles from £10 of unleaded.
make sure the timing belt been changed. Its a good car in general, but being a 3 door can cause inconvenience time to time.
if you do buy one, do post the details over here so i can compare. I paid 3200 for 55 plate with 42 on the clock and full honda service history. But i got my timing belt changed to be in the safe side which cost 250. I got a really good price tho considering the market value
best of luck
- What is my remote wire connected to on my Honda civic 2005 head unit? I have an aftermarket head unit and this is the one i have http://www.cartoys.com/cdx-gt570up and i'm going to install a amp and subwoofer and cartoys installed my deck but i just looked at the remote wire that i would connect to the amp and something is already connected to it and i do not know what that is. I believe that the wire color it was connected to was either yellow and white or yellow and green.
- What could be wrong with a 2005 Honda Civic while driving no longer went forward or reverse? Transmission oil was full when checked Transmission is good as well Transmission oil was changed and filter Does rev up and there's some type of noise
- No Crank, No Start Honda Civic 2005 Lx? My Civic has enough power for the headlights and dashboard to turn on, yet the engine will not start. Could it be a problem with fuse, alternator, or starter? Jump starting doesn't.
- Is the Honda Civic 2005 type R the same as the 2005 civic si? I know they are both ep3 body style. But did America sell the type r? Or is every 2005 civic ep3 here a si? And what's the difference between the ep2 and 3. And how hard is it to get a si with under 75,000 nowadays Thank you.
