2005 Honda Civic blown head gasket?
The motor runs but I can't test it since it's not in the car does this oil leak necessarily mean the head gaskets blown?
Check for water globules on the dipstick, or traces of oil in the coolant.
If so, then the gasket's blown.
The gasket could be damaged and letting traces of oil seep out, but not enough to be actually blown.
It may not be blown but it's on its way out. You'll need to replace it sooner or later. Easier to work on out of the car.
That's minor and the motor may run for years that way. If you have oil dripping and running down the side of the motor and leaving oil on the ground then I'd replace it. If you have trouble with no heat at idle remove the radiator cap and run the motor for 20 minutes to see if you keep getting air bubbles in the radiator neck. That's a bigger problem then minor oily dirt stuck to your motor because it leads to over heating and seizing up the motor.
It means nothing and it means everything. You can look at the leak and tell as much as anybody. Have the engine compression tested. Check the crankcase for emulsion. Sounds like you're buying a used engine. Reject it unless they offer a guarantee of no less than 30 days. 100 day guarantee is common where I live. That usually means no leaks, good compression and in running condition. If there's failure within the guarantee period they have to get you another one. You'll be stuck with installation cost.
All of the above
- Would it be, a bad idea for me to try and fix a blown head gasket? Its for a honda. Stock d16 aftermarket rims and is 1500 with a blown head gasket. My dad is the best honda mechanic in my town. He would be guiding me through it. Also the car had 137k miles and good paint. How much would it be worth if it was fixed?
- How much is an 89 honda prelude si with blown head gasket worth? I have an 89 honda prelude si with almost 200k miles on it. Interior 10/10 exterior a 6/10. Head gasket is blown but still runs and drives good. All stock. How much is it worth? In boise id by the way
- How dangerous is a blown head gasket? I have a honda integra 1990 had a recent radiator problem lots of over heating all fixed now. Just discovered recently my head gasket is blown just curious is it worth replacing? What does it exactly do when its blown?
- Worth buying a honda civic si with replaced head gasket? Looked at a 2008 honda civic si that has 73,000 miles the car was flawless inside and out. Then the owner told me it blew the original HG. He took it to a machine shop and then did the rest of the work himself. And now runs fine. Is this car still worth buying or should I walk away?
