Accidently went into reverse trying to go to 4th gear?
1996 honda civic, is this bad? There was a pretty bad grinding noise. Everything works normally though.
A bad grind for a second isn't exactly good for the gearbox but is probably okay. If you actually managed to force the car from third or fifth gear into reverse gear that could destroy the gearbox.
As it's still working it sounds like you were just grinding the gears for a second or so and got away with it. Probably best not to make a habit of it!
OOPS!
Try not to do that too often.
- My 1999 manual honda prelude does not shift into 5th gear or reverse smoothly? My gears are smooth from 1-4 but then takes a lot of effort to go to 5th or reverse. Also when you get out of 5th or reverse it doesn't go straight into neutral like a normal manual car. They still work but it is very annoying that i have to push it into the gears and pull them out. What could the issue be? Transmission? Shift box? I plan on changing to a short throw shifter in the future.
- Clunk every time I shift into reverse? I have a 2003 Acura RSX w/ 135000 miles. Every time I shift into reverse I hear a loud clunk I sometimes hear it but more faintly when it shifts to 2nd gear. The transmission shifts smoothly and I don't hear and grinding or any other abnormal sounds besides that clunk. What could the issue be? BTW honda/acura vehicles don't have ujoints since iv'e been told before it might be that.
- What could be wrong with a 2005 Honda Civic while driving no longer went forward or reverse? Transmission oil was full when checked Transmission is good as well Transmission oil was changed and filter Does rev up and there's some type of noise
- Grinding nose when changing to 4th gear. What could be the problem? I just got a rebuilt transmission and a new clutch on my Honda Civic. I'm not sure what's causing the problem.
