Air flow doesn't change in car when turning dial?

It's hard to explain, but when I switch around the air flow with my cars dial thing, direction doesn't change. For example, when I set it to feet vents only, it ll come out of front head vent and defroster. If I switch to primarily defroster, it will still come out of both vents. It's like the dial does absolutely nothing to change the airflow. I have a 2000 Honda Civic Ex sedan.

The switch is broken or a vacuum hose that operates the diverter is off. If no one has worked under the hood the switch is probly bad.

The diverter isn't moving properly. Some possible reasons are that it is physically blocked, that the controls are bad, and that the switch isn't functioning. Someone needs to actually have the car in their possession to determine which.

It's almost 20 years old. There are motors and actuators in the HVAC system. They have perishable parts. Malfunction at this age is not at all unusual. Either learn how to fix it or take it to a mechanic. This isn't the place to learn. It's a general Q&A site. Join a Honda forum. People there will be better at diagnosing your problem and telling you how to fix it. Either that or buy another cheap hoopdie that works better.

The diverter door on that car is controlled by a cable from the controller (dial). The cable could be broken or binding. See a mechanic.

The heater box actuator for the air flow direction may be bad.
Do a bit of research on youtube for the problem and you'll get a video for replacing the actuator.
