Are 300cc sport bikes faster than your average car? As an example, Honda civic and Toyota Corolla vs ninja 300 and yamaha r3

I've heard that small displacement sport bikes are faster than your average car, and was wondering if it was true.
By faster I mean faster acceleration, highway passing, and cornering.

Greater acceleration. It's Change of Rate Of velocity, so it isn't: "faster acceleration.". Top Speed Is faster. Ref: College physics!

Look up power to weight: : My Honda blows away most cagers. 63 hp on 440 # + 153 lb rider, that's .1 hp/lb. About half of a Corvette--say 500 hp/3-000 lbs, that's .188 hp/lb.

Airplanes shoot for 1 hp/ lb of engine weight. So, 230 hp would be a 230 lb engine, or less.

When the traffic signal goes green, 95% of cars are slower than my damn little Vespa 150.

My 150 can only do 65 mph, top, and in light traffic I stay in the two right lanes. In heavy traffic, the cages drop below 50 mph and I'm passing them, in whatever lane is open.

A 300 is rather quicker than my Vespa, and my Vespa does just fine.

Cornering -- any bike can do circles around a cage. However in a curve, a decent car can blow off any motorcycle. A cage with four flat tires has a *LOT* more traction than a motorcycle.

Yes, motorcycles CAN typically accelerate faster than cars. It's that little thing known as power to weight ratio.

They will be faster on acceleration than most cars but probably not a Honda Civic Type R.
Certainly faster than Mr Joe Average drives in a 0-60 shootout.

They accelerate better but final top speed is way bellow

It doesn't matter in reality.
Plenty of websites for actual research.

The key to your question is the phrase "faster" and if by faster you mean 0-60 times yes they are faster than most but if by faster you mean "top speed" then the 300 is slower than most cars out there as they have a horrible top end so it doesn't have a good top end speed the cars can go faster. See the motorcycle below it has both fast 0-60 in 3 seconds and a very high top end faster than most cars out there even corvettes and porsche. To get both fast off the line speeds and top end speeds up there you want an r6 or r1 or Hayabusa

  • Which motorcycle this is? (ex. Honda, kawasaki, yamaha, etc.) And series as well (ex. Cbr, ninja, etc.)? Thank you very much! The reason I'm asking is because it is not physically in my possession… Otherwise I obviously would have checked the bike itself.
  • Ninja 300 or Honda CBR500r for beginner? I'm looking at getting a bike and the two that interest me are the Ninja 300 and the Honda CBR500r. Just want to know what you guys would pick and why? I'm leaning towards the Ninja 300. Like the looks of it better but i'm also 6'4'' and about 175 Lbs so that may be a little small in size, motor has plenty of powerful might be a little cramped though. But anyway, what are your thoughts?
  • Kawasaki Ninja 300 or Honda Cbr300r? As a beginner I'm not sure which one to go with here. I have been riding dirt bikes in my past years so I figured the 300's would be fun to start on. I'm female relatively small, about 5'2 and 120lb. Any advice on which bike to go for? I've always liked the Honda Cbr model but can't decide if I should give the other a chance. Is there anything you do or don't like about them?
  • Are sport bikes a lot slower than super sport? I used to have a honda cbr250 but sold it to pay for college. I want to get another bike after I graduate. I was looking at the Honda Cbr500R and the Honda 600RR. Obviously the super sport has a 100cc bigger engine, but is it a lot faster than the 500R? Even more so than you would expect with the 100cc increase due to gear ratio's etc etc?
