Are HID headlights in California illegal?
I'm thinking about putting aftermarket headlight bulbs with 5000K (whitish-blue) HID lights on my Honda Civic. It will be done by a tuning shop, which will provide me the service and kit to install.
I want to know if this process is illegal in California only.
Any conversion that meets US DOT requirements meets All state requirements in All states.
If you're planning on putting them in the factory headlight assemblies, then no, it's not legal. Not in CA, not anywhere in the US The factory headlight assemblies are only certified for halogen bulbs. HID bulbs have a different focal point so the reflectors actually cast less of the light onto the road. Plus, HIDs run hotter and have been know to melt or at least distort the lens. Either buy HID certified headlight assemblies or skip the conversion. You won't be happy with HIDs in halogen headlghts.
- Is it safe to put an HID bulb 6000k or 8000k on my current HID that is 4300k? I'm not sure what heat is my stock HID but I'm assuming It's 5000k or 4300k since it is still bright yellow and not on the bluish side. I was wondering do I just buy the d4s bulb? Or do I have to get a kit? What are the avaerage prices and are some of them bad quality ones? I don't know anything about lights I'm certainly not going to change em myself but have someone do it. This is for 2013 honda crz ex model low beam
- California SMOG Check Changed? Has California changed the Smog Check requirement? Two of my vehicles ('98 Honda CRV and '02 Honda CRV) only did Pass/Fail check. Garage techs did not measure the emission data. Only one car ('98 Toyota Corolla) took emission check. Why?
- Right Headlight went out. I replaced both with 6k hid lights. Hid kit components are all brand new. Right headlight still didn't turn on? It's 91 Honda Civic sedan. Every other light works except that one headlight that isn't turning on as if it wasn't getting any current or something. High beams don't turn it on either.
- Is it illegal to not have a front License Plate in california? My dad has a 2006 Honda Civic Si. He recently installed a expensive body kit. He hates it that he has to drill holes in the new body kit in the front bumper. Can the car be driven without a front license plate? Or can you put it in the front windshield of the driver's side?
