Best compact hatchback? Honda Civic Mazda 3 or Subaru Impreza?

So I'm still driving my parents hand me down 2003 Camry but I'm thinking about buying a new car soon. I like hatchbacks and think I've narrowed my search down to this 3. Was wondering about the advantages and disadvantages of each and which is the best overall. I'm still open to other suggestions.

Toyota corolla

Toyota Corolla or Prius. You probably don't need a hatchback.

The Camry should be fine for many more years. Think of the savings versus having a car payment.
The gas savings is minimal and the Camry has a better ride.

Start paying yourself now and then you can upgrade in a few years for cash.

Google "Drive Free, Retire Rich".

I have a Mazda3 but Civic or Corolla or even Subaru or Hyundai should be fine.

I'm a millionaire and upgraded to a 2012 Mazda3 last year after driving a 94 Buick for 13 years.

I would have been fine with a 2003 Camry if it was free or reasonably priced.

I didn't set out to get a Mazda but it was one of about 4 brands I preferred and I just happened to run across a decent deal for somewhere between wholesale and private party value. That was more important than brand name to me. Because they are all decent if you take care of them.

Mine is a sedan and interestingly, I didn't like the look of the hatchback so it wasn't a priority for me.

When I was 23, I bought a Celica and the hatchback or Coupe were both fine with me. I got the hatchback. At 54, I like the Sedan. Go Figure. Even though the hatchback is a bit more practical.

Mazda

I'm partial to the Mazda - and especially partial to the hatchback.

(And even more partial to a manual transmission).
