Buying a high mileage Honda Civic?

I just found a 2000 honda civic for sale with 191k miles. Would this be safe for a teen driver? The owner says it's a good car and just got the battery replaced recently.

IF he has changed these parts then buy it. High mileage doesn't mean that the car is about or will be break down soon.
1. Alternator.
2. Starter.
3.A/C works?
4.Heat works?
5.Compressor kicks in?
See if there are any sound or noise comes from the muffler, Catalytic converter. And let him show you the prove.
It's very important to check edmunds.com to check the price.

With such high mileage it could start breaking down often, so is that a risk your willing to take. Old Honda's are prone to blowing head gaskets so be careful.

Find out if he has fixed/replaced anything else recently. Also, find out of the owner has service records, if a car has been well taken care of it will last alot longer. But, with the high miles alot of things could be going bad. You could have someone more mechanical to look at it before you buy it as well.

The only thing you should take into consideration is by reading this article concerning the transmission:

Read my answer to another member, you can do the same researching for your 2000 vehicle

  • I'm buying a bike/scooter 125cc, what would be considered high or low mileage? I'm looking to purchase a Honda CBF, Honda CBR, Aprilla RS, Yamaha YBR or Yamaha YZF… Any recommendations? Anyway, to the main point! I was wondering what a high mileage for a 125cc scooter/motorbike would be? And how old of a mototbike I should get? I understand that it depends on how the person has looked after the bike etc however, what would be considered a high mileage, low mileage and medium mileage?
  • Is buying a used Toyota, Honda or Mazda car over 100,500 mileage worth it? Or is it too risky? I don't want to buy a car that will die as soon as I get it. I want it too last a while.
  • Is 190560 miles on a 98 Honda civic lx considered high mileage? My sister gave me her civic and it runs great. There's hasn't been major problems since I've had it, other than the coil. With the right amout of money it was an easy fix. I've been wanting to change the oil but the guy at Wal-Mart suggested that I use the high mileage oil. I don't think it'll really hurt my car at any rate but is my car really high mileage?
  • I'm thinking of buying a 2004 Honda Civic with 90k miles for $6000. How are the repairs on this civic? I know the engine can last over 200000 miles or more but what about other repairs. I'm looking for a car that I can rely on and not spend too much time in the shop. My other option is a 2010 Hyundai Elentera with 43000 miles for $9000. I know the civic has a better resale value, but I'm looking for a car that I can keep the longest with the least repairs. I generally keep a car until I can't use it any longer or it gets to expensive to own.
