Can a auto transmission that is slipping cause my car to have problem starting?

I have a honda civic 98 my transmission started slipping and for some reason my car starts and then when I turn it off it won't start again I would have to wait a couple of minutes. I just put in a new starter. So I don't know if my tranny is causing it to not start. Anyone can help me thanks in advance.

What have you checked into the no cranking/ starting problems? The ignition switch and the main relay are the most common causes. Do some reading into these two links:

Take a look at these two videos: and if it need replacement use Honda parts (OEM). I've had enough nightmares with after market parts for the Main relay or the ignition switch.

The Civics in the same era are bad about water leaked into the PCM, you can open up the PCM case and if you see tracing of water leak onto the circuit board then the PCM will need to be replaced. Another test you can do is when it won't start, with a DVOM (Digital Volt Ohm Meter) go to connector A of the PCM and check for voltage at terminal A23 and A24 (Each to ground individually) and if the voltage is less than 1.0 volt. The PCM need to be replaced. This link will show you the PCM's pins locations:

You will find the PCM of the Civic, on the passenger side. In order to access it, you must lift up the carpet on the passenger side floor. If the carpet is difficult to pull back, you may also need to loosen the kick plate. Underneath the carpet is a large, heavy protection plate secured to the floor with 10-millimeter screws. Remove the screws and take off the protection plate. There are additional plugs that also have to be removed; these can be extracted by pressing in the center of the tab and pulling it away from the unit.

Hope I have given to you some ideas what to look for. Need more help or having more questions?: E mail me. HTH

Edit: Forget about the slipping transmission, it does not have anything relate to the no start/ no crank problem, actually the only thing would be the Park/ Neutral switch. Anyway most of 95-2000 Civics I've touched and look at nowadays for transmission slipping end up need a rebuild unit. Sorry!

Two problems here the slipping transmission and the starting problem. Sounds like a fuel pump might be starting to go on the starting problem' for the transmission problem find local shop at ATRA.COM for more help

Most likey an ignition problem. You could have a faulty/bad ignition. Your tranny shouldn't affect the starting of your car just the moving of it. So id go with putting in a new ignition. Not too expensive and decently easy to change.
