Can a car run without a idle air control valve?

I have a temporary throttle body on my Honda Civic 1997 which does not have a idle air control valve. Can I drive with it or no

I'm not sure, there was someone who did this to a 1998 Toyota Starlet and it started up fine. (The exhaust spat out fire and popped under acceleration).

I may be wrong but I think you should be fine driving without it. Just note - your car may come up with a fault code if you remove the idle control valve.

Hope this helps.

No not on your Honda. There's a way to bypass it though. Just inside your throttle body you'll see a hole located about an inch from the lip. Clean all around the hole with carb/intake cleaner. Double layer a piece of duct tape about 2-3 inches long and place it over the hole so it seals it. Your idle surging will be gone but you'll still get an IAC code/check engine light which if in a smog state like California it will fail inspection. The tape trick is used to diagnose IAC problems in the field. So Shhhhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone I told you… Good luck and hope this helps.
