Cylinder 3 misfire on my 2003 Honda Civic LX?

Added (1). Hello!

I drive a 2003 Honda Civic LX (the specifications are standard). A check engine light recently popped up on my car a few days ago and the heat gauge shot up real high (after about 10-15 minutes it would drop back down to normal levels). I took it to a shop to get it checked out and the guy working there said that it was a cylinder 3 misfire (code P0303).

Could anyone explain why the heat gauge shot up? How long can I drive it in this condition? Is the cause due to lack of tune-up?

Pull the cylinder 3 spark plug and smell it. If it smells like gasoline, then there's a spark problem (bad wire, or coil, or plug). If it doesn't smell like gas, then verify spark, if spark is good, then swap injector 3 with injector 4, and see if the problem moves to cylinder 4, if it does, replace the injector.

Seems like you have air in the cooling system or the engine thermostat is sticking.P0303 would be anything from a defected spark plug, a coil, an injector or a low compression cylinder or a defected PCM. Check them out.

  • I have a 99 honda civic si I did a compression test and suspect it has low compression because of misfire? So the first one came out as.180. Second one 180… Third piston 160… And the last final piston as…180 are my pistons good? Don't mean to sound like a rookie.
  • Honda misfire codes 2001 civic, three of 4 cylinders and random misfire any idea? Car actually runs fairly good but I see the misfire come on while driving I checked compression, seems fine all cylinders new plugs, new air filter, cleaned throttle assembly checked by pulling spark plugs one time no dead cylinder gross check on injectors didn't see anything two cans of injector cleaner 1 can seafoam in gas tank changed oil any good suggestions?
  • Cylinder 2 misfire 2014 Honda Civic? Suddenly lost power on my car a few days back. Began accelerating very slowly. Check engine light came on. Ran diagnostic that read cylinder 2 misfire. I figured it was spark plugs since I have been on my original part for 118k miles. Replaced them, cleared my check engine light, and the car ran fine for 5-10 seconds then the same problem happened again. I'm figuring the next step would be replacing the ignition coil to see if that does the trick. Looking for advice first.
  • 4 cylinder vs 6 cylinder vs 8 cylinder vs 10 cylinder? Which is better to get? On small sized cars such as Honda Civic, Mitsubishi Lancer and Toyota Corolla you're stuck with 4 cylinder, since 6-cylinder is not available as the option What if I get v8 or v10 vehicles… Is there any problems?
