Does honda Charge a diagnostic fee?
So, I just went to honda because the ac in my civic hasn't been working right for the past 2 weeks (sometimes it blows cold air and sometimes the air is warm)…
Pulled up and one of the advisor says to me " it's going to be $160 to diagnose the problem" I said what? Nah, I'm not paying that. Not when I have honda care. Long story short he said, he will waive the fee. But proceeded to tell me that that is usually the fee that they charge and that is separate from parts and labor that would be needed to repair whatever issue is diagnosed.
So I'm curious. Anyone ever heard of this?

$160 seems pretty high. I'm sure my dealer charges $70 or $80 for the diagnostic fee, but that fee is put towards the repair if they find the problem. If they don't find the problem, then I'm still paying them $70-$80 for just looking at it. I suggest you call other dealerships in your area and ask what their diagnostic fee is… $160 is why too high, but I'm thinking that it is the AC system is the reason for the higher diagnostic fee. They can be complicated to work on and diagnose depending on the issue.
Known issue free to repair by Honda but dealer charged $195 for diagnostics to see what it was. Shouldn't Honda pay for that also since the issue was accepted by Honda as their responsibility?

I was initially stunned by the $205 core charge, but apparently other online stores have similar core charges for steering racks. I was just wondering for those of you who have done this before, how long does it take to get the refund once tracking confirms they have received the old part?
