Driving car on 3 cylinders?

I have a 2001 honda civic that is on its last leg. I have a coolant leak from a blown head gasket that blows the coolant into the engine. This has resulted in one of the four cylinder heads to perform at low levels and can't be fixed.
Whenever I drive the car, it shakes and has a hard time accelerating.
Until I can buy a new car, I want to continue driving it. How long will I have before the car goes? Also how exactly would the car go when driving it with only 3 cylinders properly firing, what will happen to the car in the future?

Added (1). I keep adding coolant to the car every few days so the engine does not overheat. It just has a hard time accelerating and shakes.

"One of four cylinder heads"…

I have no idea WTF you're talking about. You don't have four cylinder heads.

It's going to overheat super fast possibly catch on fire it's really not a good idea to continue driveing it if you do tho take the spark plug out of the flooded cylinder

Park it. It won't run at all in a little while.

Buy a Haynes manual and a new head gasket. Your car will be scrap very soon.

I'd advise you to strap a bicycle to the rear bumper as that thing is going to quit at a very inconvenient time and leave you stranded if you don't have alternative transportation ready.

It could last a day or months before a complete failure which destroys the engine or renders it non-running.
There's no way to know.
First thing, when topping it off, I would alternate like this, use water 2 out of three times and the cheapest full strength coolant (not 50/50), every 3rd top off. So top off with Water, then Water, then Coolant. This keeps it mostly water, but some coolant in there. Also once a week run your heater, heat on high, cabin fan on medium. Just for like 3 minutes after car is fully warmed up.
To get you along for a few more weeks, you could replace the spark plugs. Get the most basic ones, they are going to go bad, but will work better than the ones in there now.

I would suggest you find an independent shop or a backyard mechanic that will fix this. I'm guessing they will charge say $500 for labor, and you buy the head gasket and timing belt kit online for real cheap. Since engine is opened up, might as well replace the timing belt. If you get it done for under $1000 than that is better than buying a $1000 car that has worse problems than the current vehicle. And when you go to sell it, you will get something above junk price since it is running.
Note if you use a backyard guy he may take a week to get it done. Ask friends if they can recommend a shop.
Best of luck.

It could last until tomorrow or next week. Either way, it won't last long. Water in an engine can't compress, so at each stroke of the pistons and valves, the engine is closer to making you walk home. This could have been repaired fairly easily at the start, but it's probably too late now because more damage continues to be done as you drive it. You are also in danger of causing an accident, which may cost you even more money! Right now the car's engine is destroying itself every time you start it. Better have a different car lined up because you'll need it real soon.

It won't heal and how long before it dies is anybody's guess.

You don't have 4 cylinder heads… You have 4 pistons. If you try driving it that way you'll ruin the motor and need a new one. What don't you understand about when a machine breaks down it needs repairing?

  • Difference between driving in a big car and a small car? So I've been practice driving with my mom's Honda pilot. What is different in a small car when driving. Do I have to pull that ebreak when parked on hill and downhill. I'd have to pay this driving ed place to use their car and a sponser. Also i'm so frustrated I can't get parallel parking at all.
  • I'm driving a 96 honda civic and my car has been shaking and overheating? I have check for leaks and everything is fine but i do have a rusted spark plug, i'm wondering if that may be the cause of shaking and excessive overheating to the point i'm driving with the heater on all the time. Can anyone let me know if the spark plug is the problem and if i replace this one rusted plug will the car drive back normally?
  • Honda misfire codes 2001 civic, three of 4 cylinders and random misfire any idea? Car actually runs fairly good but I see the misfire come on while driving I checked compression, seems fine all cylinders new plugs, new air filter, cleaned throttle assembly checked by pulling spark plugs one time no dead cylinder gross check on injectors didn't see anything two cans of injector cleaner 1 can seafoam in gas tank changed oil any good suggestions?
  • Does driving on extremely rough roads damage your car? I was driving to my friends house for the first time a couple days ago and I got lost. I ended up having to drive up this road that was all dirt, extremely cracked and had bunch of crevasses. My car was lurching pretty hard as I was driving up. Does driving on a road such as this cause any problems for your car? My car is a Honda civic 2014 and I was going as slow as possible up hill.
