Hissing in cabin when AC is on?
2003 Honda Civic 1.7L D17A1. I just started noticing this recently, when the AC is on (or defog, which uses the compressor) I can hear a hissing noise in the cabin. I can't hear it in the engine bay. What are some things that could be causing this?
Get another person to listen. Turn the fan off and on. Turn the AC off and on. Is there hussing when the car is not moving or only when it is moving. Put the vents on RECIRC and see if the hissing stops. Etc etc. If the hissing is from your AC leaking, the compressor will shut down in a few minutes due to low refrigerant pressure.
Sounds like it may be a vacuum leak. Check around under the dash to see if some of the heater controls have vacuum lines going to them. One of them may have come off or cracked.
It does this when the R134a is getting critically low. Time to buy a recharge kit for $40.
