Honda civic 2001. Car will not start in park but will start in nutral?

I have a 1997 civic and it starts in both. I always started in Neutral. My wife started it in park.

Bad neutral safety switch or linkage is just a little out of adjustment.

The transmission shifting cable is out of adjustment/ loose mounting bracket or need to be replaced. The instruction and picture in this link will show you how:

How to replace it:

  • My car won't move in any gear under its own power but rolls in park while making a grinding noise I drive a 08 Honda Civic LX automatic. Yesterday I tried to take off from a stop and heard a loud metal snapping sound followed by loud grinding. Then it wouldn t move under its own power in any gear even reverse. It starts just fine, even idles as if nothing s wrong, will rev too. I have to have the emergency brake on because it rolls in park. In park it also makes grinding noises.

Sometimes it fires up fine after a few times and sometimes it gets a bit shaky. Then Recently i started smelling gas. Only things i have gotten done recently was that i got a master kay made at the dealer, and had a remote entry installed. That was a few months ago. Its been happening a lot these past 2 day. I would appreciate any help.
  • 2000 Honda Civic will crank but not start I have a 2000 Honda Civic. I traded for it, I was actually a previous owner of it and it ran fine back in the day. I wanted it back and found it. It has been sitting in this guys yard for about 2 months. I go to start it up. It starts up just fine… Then it randomly just shuts off and never have been able to start it up again. It cranks and it smells rich in gasoline when you crank it a couple times. I checked the fuses and battery. Any help would be great.
  • Why will my 2002 Honda Accord not shift into park? I can literally shift it into the park position, but it's not acting like it is in park. Even when I have it "shifted" to park, I can't start the car. I can only start it in Neutral. When it is in the park position, the park light doesn't come on, and I can easily shift it down to reverse or neutral without having to press and hold the button. What could be wrong?
