Honda civic 97 isn't staying on after 2nd gear and turns off?
So I start my car holding the clutch I change out of first gear into 2nd gear and still keeps running, but right after the car shakes and turns off. My clutch isn't burnt out I ensured there was no pop or smoke so I don't know what may be causing this. Any suggestions? Please it would really help.
#1. Change your fuel filter first.
#2. Take the car to a Honda Dealer and ask them to test your fuel pressure on the fuel rail pressure fitting under the hood. This a very inexpensive test BUT the fuel filter must be clean to get an accurate fuel pressure reading.
It's possible that it's clutch drag.
Find a level surface, put the car into 1st gear with clutch pedal down, disengage any brakes, does the car want to move forwards slowly on its own? Even though the ground is level so it shouldn't.
IF yes, then check engine oil level is not low. Next, lube the clutch cable (If clutch is cable operated).
I'm with country boy on this,
up until he mentions dealers that is.
Me and many other indies can do fuel rail pressure tests.
But with Hondas I run a 'scope pattern test,
that tells me just what is happening inside the pump without removing it or stripping it.
And I've changes out more Honda fuel pumps than any other make!
- After replacing our car battery, our remote starter just turns and turns without actually starting the car? My wife has a 2010 Honda Fit and we just had to replace the battery. We got a remote starter installed from Best Buy in either 2010 or 2011. But after the recent battery replacement, the remote starter responds by just cranking and not starting. It does like three sets of cranking before stopping. I don't remember the brand of remote starter, but anyone have any insight of what I need to do?
- Accidentally drove in 2nd gear on highway with automatic. Did I cause any damage to my car? I didn't get much sleep so this morning I was little out of it. On my 15 minute commute to work I accidentally put my automatic car in 2nd gear instead of drive. I drove on the highway for 5 minutes going 60. I didn't notice until I got to work and realized that's why my car felt a little different while driving. It's a 2002 Honda crv. Could I have caused any long term damage?
- What is the cause of 2nd gear popping back into neutral? I own a 1997 Honda Civic Ex (coupe) SOHC VTEC that has been having this issue with the manual transmission where 1st gear chugs and 2nd gear pops out back into neutral causing the gear to grind pretty hard. I've come across many forums all giving different reasons to why this happens. I'd like to get a more definitive answer (if possible) from anyone who has had issues like/or similar to this, any mechanics out there willing to send some wisdom and tips my way is greatly appreciated.
- Check engine light turns on for a few days and then turns off for weeks/months? Code P0420 on a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid? Over the last year my check engine light has come on about 3 or 4 times for a few days at a time and then turns off again for a very long period of time. I know the code means my catalytic converter is below threshold but why would it turn off? Could it be something else? Should I look into replacing it or wait it out? Any advice is appreciated!
