How many miles should you have on a new car before driving it on the highway? (60 mph or higher)?
I just bought a 2019 Honda Civic LX yesterday and I'm wondering how many miles I should put on it before driving it on the highway. I've heard with new cars you should wait until it has a certain number of miles.
You heard wrong. There's no such advice.
That is very old school, it's no longer needed. Drive it as you will regularly drive it from the beginning. Do the first oil change at 3000. And enjoy!
Lol not true, go for it now
I've also heard you should read the owners manual in the glove box to familiarize yourself with the features and maintenance requirements of you new car.
Only one of our statements is true and it isn't yours.
Not true. As long as the engine is warmed up, you can drive the speed limit.
You heard from idiots. Modern cars don't need a "break-in" period like cars of yesteryear.
300 miles is the standard amount of breaking that you should drive nice and slow.
Didn't you test drive the car driving above 60 MPH before buying it?
People in SoCal can't drive on the freeway to get their new cars home?
I was overtaken by a day old car a few days ago. I was doing 80 .
#1 Read your owners manual. It has advice in this matter.
#2 Here. Read and learn how to break in a new car right: https://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/a3113/how-to-break-in-a-new-car/
- What is the most reliable car you've ever owned and how many miles did you put on it? Mine was Honda Passport with 250,000 miles bought brand new. Yeah I know it was rebadged Isuzu Rodeo but it was surprisingly reliable with no major problems.
- How many years from the year the motorcycle was built should you hold onto it before the parts become too expensive For example I was interested in buying a 2006 Honda CBR600f4i until I looked up the price of the fairing pieces. Just a small piece of the fairing was over $600. Of course they charge that price because they want you to buy a new motorcycle.
- Is it wrong to tell my 16year old daughter that she must earn a 3.0 gpa or higher if she wants a brand new car for graduation? If she gets below a 3.0 unless it is a medical or catastrophic situation then I will only buy her a used 2005 Chevy aveo. If she graduates in 2019 wit a 3.0 or higher I will buy her a new Nissan or Honda.
- How many years will a new car last before it breaks down often? If you buy a brand new car and keep up with maintenance, how many years can you expect to get before it begins breaking down often, requiring frequent and/or expensive repairs? 5, 10, 15, 20? I know this can vary depending on the model, but let's assume a Honda or equivalent Japanese car.
